life can be simple. only insist on freshly fried chicken wings, signature uber fragrant coconut rice that is steam not water cooked (free flow ftw) and a gallon of their sweet sweet sambal chili. see, simple.

today is the first tuesday of the month and the kind folks are paying it forward. just tip them at the end of your orders and the money will be donated to charity. Sweet!

I understand why it's the No. 1 gyoza in Singapore.

These pan-fried dumplings (S$4.80++) are stuffed generously with ground pork, prawn or beef. The crispy skin which is imported directly from Japan is perfectly fried and not hard.

The mentaiko version (S$8.80++) is definitely a must try. The torched creamy gooey mentaiko is an awesome complement to the crispy firm dumplings.

Overall, the gyozas are good enough to just have as your main dish.

One of my favourite comfort foods.

I love a good plate of soya sauce chicken noodles and the original Chew Kee Eating House delivers.

The chicken (half chicken for about S$12) was well marinated in the sweet and slightly herbal soya sauce. Both the kway teow and the mee had great textures and consistencies.

This stall (which looks pretty dilapidated) has been plating up chicken noodles for over sixty years, and my dad has been patronising this stall for over forty years.

Just a few shophouses down the road, is the more modern looking Chiew Kee Noodle House, which was opened up by the brother. (oooh family drama.) People have been up in arms about which is better. When I walked by Chiew Kee though, there was a fragrant aroma emanating from the stall. I've yet to try the Chiew Kee so I can't decide which camp I'm in.

Do you know which is better?

Can't resist a good BBQ pulled pork burger.

The BBQ Pigwich (S$18.50) is how a pulled pork sandwich is supposed to be, a beautiful mess.

No buns can contain those fresh pickled onions and that mountain of juicy slow roasted spiced pork together. Each bite has a generous dollop of that smoky BBQ sauce which makes this one of my favourites at @littledinersg.

A hallmark of Filipino cuisine would be the Lechon de Carajay, a smoked pork roast.

The crispy skin crackles with each bite so loudly that it would make your awkward silent dinner date break out with a smile. Under the crisp skin is a moist, tender and juicy interior.

The Lechon de Carajay (S$14.80) at Calle Real is utter pork perfection as it has been painstakingly prepared and cooked for over a duration of five hours!

This meal was part of an initiative by #comeletseat, with the aim of helping foreigners and Singaporeans understand each others' cultures over the universal language - food. Thank you Calle Real, @comeletseat and @burpple for the invite!

While browsing the stalls at Alexandra Village Food Centre, you would notice many people digging into claypots of laksa.

#NoChoice but I had to try it. There was a queue but it was short, thanks to the short cycle time.

The claypot helps to retain the heat which ensures that each spoonful is piping hot. Even though I ordered the large portion (S $3.5/M $4.5/L $5.5), I was disappointed with the evident lack of ingredients. Its saving grace was the spicy gravy which had great flavour without being thick and viscous like other laksas at the nearby Queensway Shopping Centre and Katong.

I'm still flabbergasted by how value-for-money this tapas dim sum buffet is!

At @baotodaysg's Rendezvous Hotel outlet, it is offering a tapas dim sum buffet for high tea and dinner that is bang for one's buck.

With over 30 items prepared fresh daily made available by its chefs from Hong Kong, it's hard to resist such a good deal.

My favourites include most of the steamed treats such as Phoenix Tail Siew Mai, Crystal Prawn Dumplings, Steamed Scallop Dumplings and Prawn Rice Rolls. I also enjoyed the Abalone and Jellyfish slices as well as the award-winning Banana and Bean Paste Pan Fried Crepes.

The buffet is "tapas-styled" meaning that the waitstaff will walk around carrying trays of dim sum to the tables and ask if you would like to try or have anything. Alternatively, you could just request if you wanted a specific dish.

High tea is from 3-5pm ($16.80++ on weekdays, $19.80++ for weekends, eve of PH & PH for adults) while dinner has two sessions, 6-8pm and 8-10pm ($19.80++ on weekdays, $22.80++ for weekends, eve of PH & PH for adults). Though sometimes they allow walk-ins, reservations are highly recommended.

I'll definitely be heading back to satisfy my dim sum cravings! Thank you @baotodaysg and @burpple for hosting this amazing buffet.

Not the most visually appealing but definitely one of the best.

A big draw to Kok Sen is its famous Big Prawn Hor Fun ($16, 32, 48). The rice noodles have a nice char and wok hei which add a bit of texture and fragrance to the dish. The best part though is definitely the thick eggy sauce. It has small red chilli flakes that add a lil' spice to the hor fun which differentiates itself from other typical hor fun variants. When I was done with it, I was already wanting more!

Had my sashimi cravings satisfied at @shinkeibuffet!

The value-for-money buffet spread includes over 120 Japanese favourites like makimono, yakimono, tempura, aburi sushi, nigiri sushi and much more. The main highlight would definitely be the fresh thick slabs of sashimi from the sashimi moriawase. The hamachi (yellowtail) was exquisitely sweet and just shiok. I would probably just sit in again and just stuff my face with the sashimi platter.
Lunch and dinner buffet goes for $45++ for adults and $29++ for children below 10 years old. For the rest of the few days of January, every 2nd diner gets 50% off!

Mocha Falls doesn't fall short!

I had the intriguing but wonderful Mocha Falls ($5.50) that was drizzled with dark chocolate at the brim which added a pleasant bitter sweetness to the rich mocha.
The Nomad has a pop-up cafe located at The Stirling and operates on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 5pm. It serves coffee, tea and specialty drinks.

The friendly duo behind The Nomad, Abbas and Eunice, travel about to scour for different blends to use in their amazing drinks. They are also very open to teaching and sharing what they know about preparing and serving coffee! Feel free to ask them more!

Thank you to @thenomadtravels and @burpple for an excellent time!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Though I actually had this for brunch from Beyond Plate, this was certainly a winner for me! The fried chicken was delightfully crispy on the outside while the meat was wonderfully juicy and tender on the inside. The waffles were thick and fluffy. Together with the fried egg and honey mustard cream sauce, this ensemble ($14.90++) made a great meal for any time of the day.

Thank you @beyondplate.sg, @thenomadtravels and @burpple for the invite and the super satisfying brunch!

Beautiful runny Eggs Benny!

A compact bar and diner tucked in within Kam Leng Hotel. Suprette serves both breakfast and lunch items in the day till 2:30pm for weekdays and 3:30pm for weekends.

I can understand why its Eggs Benedict ($17) is one of its signatures. The eggs were poached to perfection and had runny yolks, the muffin was lightly toasted and the bacon was crispy yet not rock hard. Of equal mention is the salad! The vegetables were fresh with a dressing to die for.
