Always love a good pasta place!
Spaghetti bolognese is my all-time comfort foods (especially if there are meatballs)! Sadly, no meatballs but Spagtacularās take on the traditional bolognese but it has a lovely sous vide egg which when stirred in, gives much more bite to the pasta. I enjoyed the al dente texture of the spaghetti which is hard to come by for places at this affordable price point. Overall, a wonderful dish as I cleaned out the plate of every drop red wine infused beef bolognese sauce.
Also, #BurppleBeyond is available here so imagine getting a main for less than $10?! Definitely coming with a friend next time!

Poultry when cooked and executed well, I think becomes the best tasting protein and such is the case with Spagoās brioche stuffed Australian quail.
This dish doesnāt have a strong gamy taste but instead is packed full of flavour due to the coating of finely chopped pistachio gremolata. The quail is ever so tender and juicy, and sits atop a bed of smooth fennel purĆ©e together with a Swiss chard and caramelised Comice pear slices.
This dish is available as a main on Spagoās Express Prix Fixe 3-course lunch menu at $45++.
Can you believe this is only $3?
Can you look at the amount of chicken meat compared to the rice? You canāt because thereās just so much meat, you arenāt able to see the rice! Xin Heng Kee has plates that are super value for money. Whether itās roasted/boiled chicken, braised duck or roast pork, you can get something that doesnāt even out a dent in your wallet. But of course, it tastes good as well!
One of my favourite cakes and in my opinion, the best cake at Cake Spade.
The three layered angel food cake is packed with layers of a decadent and slightly bitter dark chocolate mousse. The best part would be the thin but spectacular layer of crunchy hazelnut fueilletine which adds dimension to the cake. The cake is topped off with gold flakes and a seasonal fruit, making the dessert befitting of the name, chocolate royaltine cake.
Damn shiok.
Got introduced to these juicy bombs recently and I love it. These Szechuan spicy wantons (or Hong You Chao Shou, 红油ęę; $4.50 for 10 pcs) are doused in the perfect balance of vinegar and chili oil to make a wonderfully flavourful sauce without being too spicy. What separates this apart from other establishments would be the texture of the wanton - soft and firm. How can I only have 10 of these? I need more! #burpproved
A great place to satisfy your cravings for Ipoh hor fun. The sauce here has a tinge of a herbal taste which makes one feel less bloated after eating. One must opt for the fried fish nuggets if he had to choose between that or shredded chicken. But of course, I had to have both š
Why have I not tried this earlier?!
Iāve known for a long time of WANTON Sengās Noodle Bar existence but I could never convince myself to fork out $7 onwards for wanton mee when Amoy Street Food Centre is just a stone throw away. But thankfully, because of Burpple Beyondās 1-for-1 mains, I thought it was now worth it to try.
I had the twosome noodles which consists of boiled wanton dumplings, charred char siew and slices of fatty roast pork belly. After slurping the bowl clean, all I can say is that Iām ashamed that I didnāt come earlier!
Regardless with a 1-for-1 promotion, I think these noodles are worth the spend. Thereās free flow broth and crispy pork lard which elevates the already flavourful dish to another level. The chili isnāt as spicy as the likes of Engās but it gets the job done.
In short, Iāll definitely come here more often for my noodle fix.
A scrumptious rice bowl packed with lots of flavour!
I ordered the pork jowl don because it sounded like such a hearty dish on the menu.
Atypical of most rice bowls, this comes with garlic fried rice which is superb when mixed with the onsen egg. Some people would prefer to have uruchimai, or pearly white Japnanese rice, but I think the fried rice makes for a more well-rounded dish. The grilled pork cheeks were tender and well-cooked and seasoned. Definitely left wanting more!
The fried egg power sandwich is a lazy manās breakfast.
All the good stuff condensed and concentrated to fit in your hand: double fried egg, crispy crackling bacon, chunky tater tots, all smothered in melted cheddar and their signature PBD sauce between ciabatta bread.
Only available on their breakfast menu! 0730-1030 on weekdays and all-day on Saturdays.
So wonderful that I literally shed a tear.
This is a dish to remember and will always be talked about. The handmade agnolotti with sweet corn, to put it crudely, is orgasmic. One bite into these fluffy pillows and youāll taste the beautiful piping-hot but delicate amalgamation of Japanese sweet corn purĆ©e and soft mascarpone. Itās really hard to explain the experience but I just say you MUST have it if itās in season. #burpproved
Saw the opportunity and I seized it.
I was at Amoy Food Centre and I noticed Han Kee had a relatively short queue so I literally jumped right at it. If you walk around the vicinity, you would notice this iconic green bowl on many tables - shows their popularity!
I ordered the $5 sliced fish bee hoon (also available in $7/9 sizes) and I can tell why itās so enjoyed by many. The soup is clear yet fragrant especially from the fried onions. The sliced batang fish taste fresh and come in thick slabs. The noodles are cooked precisely to give a nice ābiteā texture which elevates the whole dish. Itās definitely one of my favourite sliced fish soups now!
