Another burger craving satisfied!

Visited Glasshouse by DHM which is a consortium of restaurants, L’EntrecĆ“te, &MADE, Sabio and Ange Cafe, all housed in one terrace.

The burgers on the Burpple Beyond’s 1-for-1 menu caught my eye and particularly, Blue Moon ($22++) because I loooove blue cheese! The medium rare dry aged patty was tender and juicy while the bacon was crisp yet easy to chew. The golden shoe string fries were a treat to have especially with the restaurant’s gourmet house ketchup. My only gripe with this burger was the lack of French blue cheese as I could barely taste it. Still, it’s really value for money even with or without a 1-for-1 deal!

One of the best tiramisu I’ve had in Singapore.

The tiramisu ($16++) at the waterfall strikes a balance between classic and modern refinement. The decadent cube of layered Savoiardi ladyfingers, creamy mascarpone and cocoa powder makes for an indulgent dessert without being too rich or overpowering. The dessert pulled out all the stops with the premium coffee ice cream that complemented the tiramisu perfectly, resulting in a dessert that you’ll never forget.

Best crab croquette I’ve had.

A deceptively simple snack that blew me away, the crab croquette (2 for $8, 4 for $15) was amazing. It had a light crisp batter that housed a piping-hot thick and creamy crab filling. But what stole the limelight was the sensational basil vinaigrette which my dining party refused to let the waitstaff clear because we wanted to have it with everything!

These golden fried snacks are a must at Kilo.

Too peculiar for my tastebuds.

Visited the new Hototogisu Ramen (that gained Michelin fame in Tokyo) outlet at Great World City where it offers two signature oyster paste ramen dishes. I tried the Oyster Paitan Ramen ($15.90++) which the restaurant boasted it had ā€œa bold soupā€ with ā€œdistinctā€ flavours. No doubt that the broth was rich and bold as well as distinct, but it was because it had potent elements that didn’t mix well.

The dish had so many ingredients with intense flavours such as pungent chopped onions, roasted sweet corn, dried tomato, bitter arugula, oyster paste, oyster oil and a sour aburi lemon slice together with miso. I couldn’t imagine how such a combination would sit well.
.
The noodles were well-cooked and I liked the texture of the cha shu but the broth is difficult to take in. I’d recommend trying their more traditional offerings.

Doesn’t look like much but it’s one of my favourite things to eat.

J.B. San Lou Meehoon ($7/11/14) is a difficult dish to photograph. It’s as if your economic bee hoon for breakfast accidentally got flattened on your way to work but I can assure you, the taste is the complete opposite.

The meehoon is loaded with a wok hei flavour as it has absorbed the aromatic stock under short but intense heat. That results in a crispy exterior yet slightly soft interior. The flavour of the ingredients such as squid, prawns and vegetables is also enhanced due to the wok hei. Every table will have this dish because it’s that good and that addictive.

Why have I not tried this earlier?!

I’ve known for a long time of WANTON Seng’s Noodle Bar existence but I could never convince myself to fork out $7 onwards for wanton mee when Amoy Street Food Centre is just a stone throw away. But thankfully, because of Burpple Beyond’s 1-for-1 mains, I thought it was now worth it to try.

I had the twosome noodles which consists of boiled wanton dumplings, charred char siew and slices of fatty roast pork belly. After slurping the bowl clean, all I can say is that I’m ashamed that I didn’t come earlier!

Regardless with a 1-for-1 promotion, I think these noodles are worth the spend. There’s free flow broth and crispy pork lard which elevates the already flavourful dish to another level. The chili isn’t as spicy as the likes of Eng’s but it gets the job done.

In short, I’ll definitely come here more often for my noodle fix.

It took me years but I’ve finally tried Matchaya and it’s so good! The matcha flavour for the soft serve is so rich and intense! One serving is $5.90 but there’s a #BurppleBeyond 1-for-1 promotion for a soft serve + drink which is a saving of $10.

Wasn’t a fan of lala until today!

I haven’t been fond of clams. I attribute the dislike to an unfortunate encounter of a time I had some bad clams. However, one of JB Ah Meng’s most popular dishes include the famous fried garlic chili clams ($16++, strangely, service charge is only 1%). I tried it, and was blown away.

Firstly, I don’t recall seeing such large clams elsewhere in this quantity. Secondly, the spicy garlic sauce is to die for. It is dangerously addictive. It didn’t take long for me to form a mountain of empty clamshells! Not an ordinary sight coming from someone who feared clams.
