The platter looked like your usual yusheng with smoked salmon as the centrepiece. Of course the differing factor would be the tongue-numbing mala sauce, right? So what's my verdict?

I couldn't tell the taste of the mala. At all! That's because they didn't deliver the mala sauce! What yusheng comes without the sauce and crackers? Seriously 😡 I wouldn't have minded if they had made a mistake and sent the plum sauce instead but not to give any sauce and/or crackers is just inexcusable. .
But I didn't want this to spoil our otherwise enjoyable (full of laughter) catchup sesh. So, I quickly went to the kitchen to whip up some plum sauce when I discovered an unopened bottle of Kewpie's Roasted Sesame Sauce in the fridge 😃 So that came to the rescue. Everybody agreed it actually went very well with the yusheng.

Lesson to be shared: keep Kewpie handy. You never know when you'll need it 😉

I think this is the first time that I left a buffet restaurant not feeling like I've over-eaten but just nice 😝 That's probably because the conversation was the real "mains" for the evening. .
Nevertheless I still got to my familiar favourites of the laksa (I used vermicelli instead of the thick beehoon noodles to reduce the carb intake 😉), the satay (which we shared la, I didn't eat all of that!), and of course the desserts - still my faves all these years - the durian pudding and egg tarts. One of my friends even started the dinner with the durian pudding 😀 because he said "dessert is the most important" 😂

The original recipe platter from @kfc_sg that consists of OR chicken fillet, scrambled eggs, has brown and soft wholemeal buns. (The muffin was the single leftover from yesterday's bake 😋). Doesn't the plating remind you of airline food? 😆 How I eat this is to butter up the buns and reheat them in the toaster. Layer the scrambled eggs with chilli sauce and boomz. I cut the fillet up in small pieces that can be used later with porridge for an upsized version of their porridge 😋

On a side note, I was a tad disappointed when I couldn't order thru the KFC website earlier. Then I remember @foodpandasg app to the rescue. The order came under 20 minutes! 😘 .

Yup apple strudel from @ritzapple has been my go-to pastry to cap off a crazy week of endless marking. I like the combination of sweet cream with the slightly tart apple fillings that are sandwiched between layers of crispy and flaky filo pastry. Simply divine. .

It may sound a bit "weird" but the creamy Mao Shan Wang mixes so well with the kaya for a sweet treat. And there's also mozarella cheese and corn bits that added another yummy layer and texture. They actually went deliciously well together 😋

But if you're not a durian fan (or if you don't take durian that has been mashed into other food form) you might wanna try the Prosperity Smoked Salmon Pizza. It's not bad. You get the smoked salmon slices (new year must eat fish, right? 😛) with melted cheese and creamy avocado. It feels healthy even though you get a bit of that saltiness associated with the smoked salmon (but a little salt won't hurt la).

The vegetarian meal started with this almond and pumpkin puff pastry, goat cheese, dukkah and heritage carrots. The pastry flakes were so crisp and crunchy. The dukka goes so well with the goat cheese. First time I'm having the two together like this. The carrots had that wholesome flavour with each bite. Very satisfying.

The first time I went to Cajun On Wheels (COW) at Pasarbella in Suntec City, it was full house and we didn't want to wait so we left. Second time was at the Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre but it was closed on that day that we were there. Finally, now for the 3rd time, we went to the Plaza Singapura outlet and we made it 🌈

Instead of ordering the seafood buckets that they're known for, we decided to order the individual platters. I had the soft-shell crab platter with aglio olio. For the sauce, I picked Spicy Cheesy Soil (cos it sounds different from the rest 😉)

The meal was quite standard fare. Maybe my expectation was heightened cos of all the reviews and was built up after the previous two unsuccessful attempts. The aglio olio was a little undercooked and dry. Would have benefited from a tad more dashes of olive oil. And for me, aglio olio needs to have a little spicy kick that was missing here. The soft-shell crab was ok. Crispy exterior but still juicy with each bite. Now the sauce. Hmmmmph. It tasted a little like salted egg yolk just a whole lot cheesier. I didn't quite like it (even though I'm a big cheese eater!).
