Ah Lock & Co has a few new items on their menu which include the Hakka Pork Bun, Hakka Karni Bowl and the Hakka Meatball Bowl. Got the Hakka Pork Bun to go, which costs $3.90 ala carte or $5 as a set with drinks.
The Hakka Pork Bun comes with slices of roast pork belly and cubes of slightly sweetened tamago sandwiched in a soft bun. This took close to 10 minutes to be served, which was a little ridiculous for a bun that wasn’t even hot. The ingredients weren’t outstanding, but they were tasty. The roast pork was tender, and the skin was slightly crispy. The tamago was soft and not too sweet, which was great. However, the bun seemed to be sprinkled with some white sugar which made it really sticky and a little too sweet for my liking. Although I do love soft breads, perhaps a firmer bun would’ve done better in this case as it all felt a little too ‘nua’ and I couldn’t get over how sticky the top of the bun was.
Maybe this would be better if it was toasted or served warm. Given that it wasn’t, and the waiting time is relatively long, I’d say to give the Hakka Pork Bun a pass. Just go for the bowls, or the min jiang kueh for a quick fix instead.
Best Min Jiang Kueh I’ve ever had! Remember to ask them to heat it up for you before consuming!

Legit crispy, with a nice acidity from the sumac twist. Sumac is one of my fave spices - it can lift an entire dish. The aioli was also very good. May seem pricey at $19 but it was quite a large portion.
Went to Monga over the weekend to try their famous Ji pa. Queued for 20 mins. I ordered The Taiker, which has a kind of Japanese sweet sauce glazed over it, and seaweed powder (similar to McDonald's seaweed shaker fries).
Yes, they did deliver their promise on a thick cutlet, but it definitely wasn't very juicy at all. Pretty damn dry, and the seasoning (may seem like a lot in the picture) didn't really do much to enhance the flavour of the Ji pa. Wouldn't go again, it was disappointing.
It might be that the quality was compromised that particular day due to there being an overwhelming amount of orders, and they sacrificed quality for a higher quantity of Ji pa- to be cooked at speed as people were waiting. This is a $6.90 I won't be getting back. Devil Chicken really destroys Monga hands down. You'd be way better off there instead.

Bakery on b2 of takashimaya, around the market there. Tried the old fashioned donu, which was cookie like, the cookies and cream donut was fluffy, sadly no fillings in it and felt a bit heavy 3.5/5
Bought petit sapporo doughnut! Hehe nom nom nom
Taiwan's cafe which is famours for its charcoal grilled breakfast toast opened 1st outlet in Singapore! The best idea to avoid to queue is to have "breakfast" at 3pm. Not a big fan for pork so I came to the choice of floss. It's an amazing creation to mix savoury floss with sweet condensed milk, which gives me the balance on the palate and surprising fulfillment in my mind! They sell the toast itself as well (only the top slice) at the price of 3.9sgd per pack. U can also give it a try while queueing. Will come back for more!
Nice alternative to other sugary cakes available
Honey instead of sugar is a brilliant thought, slightly healthier I feel.
$7 per slice. Could have been cheaper.
Team 🐄 or Team 🐓 ?
A place to check out for cheap and good burgers, just as I did to sate my burger desire. Sandwiched between the fluffy toasted buns for the cheeseburger that the boyf had were some slow caramelised onions, American cheese, chopped pickled jalapeños, house-made sauce and of course the beef patties. Burst of beef flavour with a hint of char the moment we took a bite off the burger from their handmade beef patties, but we would have preferred it not to be well-done as it resulted in a slightly dry texture. Nevertheless, the sweet caramelised onions and melted cheese rounded the meaty taste off wonderfully with some moisture.
There’s an option of original or spicy version for the fried chicken burger. I had the spicy version, which kinda reminded me of Mcspicy, but subtler. Complementing the crispy, succulent chicken thigh were a beautifully-colored house-made slaw and Hammee’s burger sauce, having a similar taste to the Thousand Island sauce. Though a spicy burger, the 🔥 which came trailing toward the end, was quite manageable. What really captivated me were still the toasted buns with a buttery aroma which hits the sweet spot.
All burgers are served with a side of paprika-seasoned fries. Waiting time was approximately 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon.
Finally tried arguably the best Taiwanese fried chicken!! Devil chicken are having a soft opening now at Century Square, so each person is limited to buying 2. Waited for this so long and it's finally happening.
They have 2 flavours currently- the original and spicy. I opted for spicy!
It was so devilishly good, and the batter was absolutely crackling! The crunch is insane on this! The chicken inside is extremely moist, tender and juicy. Not to mention how damn thick it was😨 It's about roughly 330g of chicken breast, this can be a meal on its own. Although mine was spicy, there was a subtle hint of sweetness from the batter which complemented the chicken very well. Super shiok!
Queues are not long yet, do get yours before they do 😅 Only waited about 6mins.
Enter fried chicken haven at Devil Chicken!

Rich and hearty bakes! That Salted Caramel Cupcake ($4.20) was the best cupcake I've ever had in my life. You CANNOT go to Plain Vanilla and not order their cupcakes. Dense, moist and very rich. I had these all to myself, a little cheat day for me! Their Peanut Butter Brownie ($7) and Dark Chocolate Marble Cake ($5) are pretty awesome as well! But undoubtedly, hands down, the undisputed star was their Salted Caramel Cupcake. Money well spent and a must try!!
