Got the small portion at $8.90 and found it to be substantial enough for my small appetite. Liked the furikake on the rice which made it more tasty! However the description on the board said there'd be a mix of tuna, salmon and swordfish but I didn't get any swordfish so I can't help but feel a little deceived... š¤ I was also not told upon ordering that there wouldn't be any swordfish.
We came at around 7pm on a Sunday evening and waited about 45 mins for food after being seated. This place doesn't take reservations for groups smaller than 10 pax. The food is worth the wait though, and I especially enjoyed the sweet and sour pork and the tofu with prawns. That said, the staff have kind of an arrogant attitude which I didn't really like and it is not the most comfortable place to dine, but at least the food is not bad.
Requested for rare doneness and it came well done. Well done to them indeed! Why even bother asking? Meat was so tough and dry, not good. The sides were rather meh too. Really disappointing, will not return.
This small portion that you see came up to be more than $20. It is insanely expensive and overpriced, and not even that good. Each portion of meat and veggies is like less than half the amount of what you would usually get at other mala places. The instant noodles go for $2 a portion, the most expensive I've come across so far. The salted egg was very sickening and jelat, although I should have anticipated this before ordering. We also waited really long for this, about 30-45 mins. I would not recommend anyone to try this. Save your coins and get your mala fix somewhere else.
Tbh this is one of my favorite dishes to order off Mealpal and I'd always order it without fail if it's available. Very generous portion of spicy salmon sashimi cubes and goes really well with the soba. I'd still order this even if it weren't on Mealpal.
Not your usual boring salad and they are super generous with the avocado so if you like avocado, I'd recommend this. Only negative is that it's served cold (cold pulled pork is weird for me) but you can easily warm it up in a microwave if you prefer it hot :)
I got this through Mealpal so the toppings have already been selected by default. The raw carrots and cucumbers were pretty bland and I didn't care for them. I especially dislike raw carrots. Everything else was great, I really liked the smoked almonds and wakame strips. They were also pretty generous with the avocado salmon, which was really interesting. All in all a very healthy and satisfying meal!
If you are using Burpple Beyond here, note that there is a clause not stated anywhere on the app that the 1-for-1 is only valid for items capped at a maximum value of $21.90, effectively eliminating half the items from the smoked meats section. We still got a pretty good deal, but it was not what we had wanted to eat so it was a little disappointing. Also even though it was only 7+pm and there was only 1 other table in the restaurant apart from us, they had run out of all their pasta dishes which further limited options to just 2 rice bowls.
I ended up with the beef brisket bowl and they were pretty generous with the amount of beef brisket, which I appreciated. I'm a huge fan of smoked meats so I was hoping for a smokier flavour. My favorite element however was the hae bi hiam topping which I thought was a brilliant idea. I did not care for the fried bits at the side which I found to be very greasy and filled with oil while not bringing much to the dish in terms of flavour.
I appreciate that they use spices and herbs in this, but it was just way too salty!! I had a hard time eating it because it was so salty and that was pretty much all I could taste. I thought this was supposed to be their signature dish and if that's the case then I'm afraid to try other options on their menu. I got this through Mealpal so maybe their QC for mealpal food is more lax š¤
This is the original roll, a simple preparation with just mayo, lemon zest and some herbs and spices. Look at how generous they are with the lobster! š The brioche bun was well toasted too. Only complaint is it's too small of a portion to be filling for lunch. I got hungry again real quick and had to buy cup noodles from 7-11 š it's still a good deal for a lobster roll at $16 compared to other lobster rolls - and an even better deal for $3 on Mealpal if your fingers are fast enough!
One of my favorite chirashi dons, love that it's marinated! Great ratio of seafood to rice as they are generous with the seafood. Really no complaints at all, especially since I got it on mealpal for just $3! š But it's so good I don't mind paying $16 for it, just not for lunch every day haha.
The menu here is pretty interesting but perhaps because of the location, it's a little pricey. I had this beef goulash mac and cheese because it sounded interesting but it turned out to be $21.90 for a normal mac and cheese with a few pieces of beef bacon. When I think of goulash, I think of stew. Which is definitely not present at all in this dish as you can see from my photo (no it was not hidden underneath the cheese either unfortunately). It was still yummy and we finished it all but to call it goulash is a misrepresentation. It should just be called beef bacon mac and cheese, in which case I wouldn't have ordered it cos it's kinda boring š
