It really is a snack recipe instead of a meal. Presenting vegan-friendly tempeh crisps that you can make at home! As usual, link in profile!

The falafels are warm and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and that’s about all the good things about this meal. The pita feels dead - too much flour on the outside and not warm. The hummus is passable and the side salad a joke. The olives too sharp and the other vegetables felt like it’s been washed after eating - way too bland even for an unsalted mixed.

$30/pax. Had brunch at Cafe Melba over the weekend and boy did everything look good. The portions justify the price (at least $20 per main), so go with an appetite. The sweet potato fries were well-fried. I had the roast chicken ($24) served atop a bed of roasted vegetables. This is a great family-friendly place to come if you have a child with abundant energy and need some sun- the bouncy castle and field next to the cafe is perfect for kids to expend their energy while adults brunch.

Don’t be fooled, the melon refers to the biscuit crust on top of the bun, not the filling. Nonetheless the cold custard filling is so smooth and yummy, a great treat in the warm weather. Or bring it home and keep overnight in the fridge for a sweet breakfast too.

This week I made bibimbap and a massive load of banchan dishes. I also mistakenly type ā€œbuibimbapā€ many times today I guess that’s what a buibui wants to eat.

Now you have. Interestingly you can regard Thunder Tea paste as Chinese pesto - just a little more herby - both made with basil with nuts, pesto has cheese and garlic.

Swee Choon’s custard egg buns never fail. Same goes their carrot cake that’s crisp on the outside and soft inside. However, their meesua kueh has seen better days. Skip their Cheong fun, there’s is an aftertaste of disaster. Onion pancakes are also tasteless to say the least. I don’t know why the queues are still long and getting longer here. Give me Victor’s Kitchen any day!

This week I finally got down to making my own Thunder Tea Rice and a time lapse video along with it. Link in profile!

Located at the basement of Roxy Square (enter from Katong side), this laksa is no frills but all the flavour. Do try it if you’re sick of 328 being gimmicky and touristy.

My other sinful favourite is their 3-flavour hotate sushi with toppings - pollock mentai and cream cheese. The scallops are sweet and tasty too. It’s a fun place to dine with the price point set between Sushi Tei and Sushi Express. Children will enjoy seeing their food delivered on a train and perhaps adults too.

The best iced white I have had so far - I don’t typically have good impression of iced coffee in the cafes I have been, and I hate cold brew. However the weather was sweltering and I wanted an iced drink. With lower expectation I had a pleasant surprise with the iced white from Kurasu, a small coffee joint at level of Odeon Towers. The iced white I had was smooth without being watering, creamy but not cloying. Highly recommended for an afternoon respite!
