Mee Siam Back with my Mee Siam adventure! 🥢 I wonder if the shop name came after shortlisting the shop? As the name suggests, the shop does exist in a cozy corner with little seats. Not that I have to wait long for a seat, as many are takeaway orders. A satisfying Mee Siam! Gravy was thick, chilli does pack a punch. Though I personally prefer a more sour base, will request for more lime the next time. Can’t wait to have my next Mee Siam!

Yung Yang Jeongol The yung yang actually translates as nutrition, not yin yang or yuan yang. This was a random order but it turned out very good. The beef was so-so but there's a lot of ingredients and the soup was nice. The problem though was the stew had lots of fibre or something, which made it difficult to drink.

Banchan Kimchi, omelette, anchovies, seaweed. Omelette is quite rare as banchan and it's delicious. The seaweed was akin to China's and it sucked.

Pork Cutlet Their legendary dish, which isn't even very Korean (I think?). The cutlet is not only huge, it dominates the other components. It's fried well and the meat's decent. It's topped with a tomato-like sauce. But please eat while hot, because it became quite off-putting for us.

Couldn't decide which Japanese restaurant at Turf City to have for lunch so we settled for Restaurant Hoshigaoka by JP Pepperdine, as their lunch sets are more affordable. My Saikoro Steak set costs ($16.80) and it was the only hit for lunch. Mum's Kara Sake Kama set was overly salty and dad's Bara Chirashi took a very long time to serve. Also, the cacophony of two different music playing, loud chattering and difficulty getting attention of wait staff will make this probably my one and only visit.

Sashimi Mori The standard of the sashimi is average, but affordable. I'd suggest to only get the salmon sashimi. It's better!

Kebab Sultani ($42) Smoky-charred, and well marinated in onion saffron and olive oil. This kebab of both lamb fillet and minced lamb is simply divine. It is slightly heavy on the salt, but best eaten with that fluffy basmati rice on the side. If you like some sweetness to the dish, there is small side of of tomatoe sauce. But go for the tomato, onion, Chili and dill salsa that gives a nice kick, but yet so refreshing. Share so that you can order more, like the hummus and minced lamb, and a basket of flatbread.

Indonesian Rijsttafel Platter ($80++) consisting of chicken sambal, sate lilit, fish pepes, lawar kacang, perkedel, chicken curry, beef rendang, chicken sate and nasi kuning. I can only say, everything on the platter was 😋. Only the chicken sambal was really spicy and I couldn't take it. Beef rendang was tender and excellent. This platter was definitely big enough for 2 or 3 people to share (fingers for scale) 😂.

Great hidden Gem We had a nice walk in the Botanical Gardens, and stopped by here for a drink and light snacks. Great environment where I felt like we went back to Ubud. Food was great, this photo is Gado Gado (S$13), served in a very creative style and it was also delicious!!

Dining In Bali In clockwise: Butter Chicken ($24), Smoked Salmon with Caper and Lemon dressing ($15), Homemade Tofu with Thai Chili Sauce ($9), Thai Vegetable Green Curry ($16) and a little cocktail that was served midway. The dining experience was pretty memorable - it definitely chased our troubles away for the time being and brought us away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

HEARTY PERANAKAN FOOD AT AFFORDABLE PRICES Ivins Peranakan Restaurant has long been in one of my places to visit and I finally understand why the place has been highly recommended by many. It is hard to beat places that serve hearty portions at an affordable price nowadays. We had a few of their signatures such as the Beef Rendang, which is served piping hot in a claypot and the meat is tender to the bite. The Ikan Masak Assam is tangy and spicy but the real standout star is the Sotong Hitam of stir-fried squid in a sweet black sauce.

Peranakan Cuisine Had a Peranakan feast at Ivins Peranakan Restaurant at 19/21 Binjai Park and we ordered: ▪️Garam Assam Fish Head ($27 - 3 to 4 pax) ▪️Ayam Buah Keluak ($8.20) ▪️Babi Pongteh ($7.50) ▪️Nyonya Chap Chye ($6.20) ▪️Fried Ngo Hiang ($6) ▪️Sotong Hitam ($7.20) ▪️Egg Fuyong ($5.70) ▪️Terong Goreng Chilli ($5.50) ▪️Chendol ($1.50) One of my favourite dishes of the night is the Garam Assam Fish Head which is 1/2 fish head served in spicy tamarind gravy. The gravy has just the right balance of spicy, tangy and sweet notes, and it goes s ppl o well with rice. Ayam Buah Keluak is my all-time-favourite in any Peranakan restaurant and I love digging out and savouring the flavourful flesh of the buah keluak. The sauce of the Babi Pongteh is a tad sweet for me, but the braised pork belly literally melts in your mouth. The Chap Chye is decent as well. Two of the dishes were unexpectedly good. Sotong Hitam features stir fried squid with black ink sauce and cut chilli and this is actually full of flavour with a hint of smokiness. The squid is tender as well. The Terong Goreng Chilli looks like a simple eggplant topped with chilli but the chilli is actually very aromatic and it is not too spicy. Overall, I enjoyed the food and it was pretty satisfying. Do note that each item is quite small, so if the group is large, you might have to order double portions of each item.

Nyonya kuehs We usually come here for nyonya food. Affordable prices with good portioning. Sometimes they have kuehs fresh in store, the kaya salat was the best for me.

Porridge for mizutaki Complimentary Idk if it's as good as it looks, since I expected the broth to have more umami. It's what u expect I guess once you taste the thick collagen broth

Wagyu motsu nabe 42++/pax, min 2 pictured 2 pax This has a clear, yet still ridiculous thick collagen broth that's much more packed w umami and more strongly seasoned. Alongside the garlic and chilli, it was rlly strong and could go on rice actually rather than being sipped. The wagyu motsu had a really clean flavour and was so soft. Since it's tasteless it goes well w a little bit of yuzu chili It's lovely but incredibly expensive. Plus idk if it's done the authentic way because it's not supposed to be a clear broth. Worth a try if you have money to throw. Otherwise I would recommend the authentic one at eat at seven

Saturday brunch ordered hangover cure I love the toast and mushroom. Chicken Sausage is all about quality. Coffee is on point too #yum

Oceans Thirteen We we’re late in reserving a table for Sunday’s brunch and this was the best we could get. However we were lucky to have found this place and we loved it. It’s a small place with limited number of seats but it’s a great place to hang out with friends or family alike for a good brunch I would say. I ordered “Oceans Thirteen (16SGD)”, the name was quite interesting and it addition it came with things that I love, Smoked salmon, poached eggs, guacamole, beetroot marmalade, arugula, ikura, toast. Had also ordered strawberry smoothie to go with it but didn’t like it that much. Overall the food was really well done and would love to visit a next time.

Good Ocean's Thirteen Pretty good ocean's thirteen which is Smoked Salmon Benedict. Eggs nicely done, smoked salmon tasted good, love the bread! Plus it comes with avocado, beetroot and ebiko which makes a good combination of flavours.

My friend ordered their Beef Ribeye Steak which was tender and cooked till the doneness we requested for. I would say that it was a pretty good piece of steak! Eggs Benedict from @scrumptious.at.the.turf. The hollandaise sauce was pretty good but a little too sour to my liking and poached eggs were a little undercooked. I guess they can cook their mains (ribeye steak was pretty good) better compared to their all-day-breakfast, so go for their mains when you visit them.
