The perfect breakfast combination - sous vide eggs, melted brie, truffle butter and croissant toasted to a crisp πŸ₯

Taste: 10/10 (The creamy cheese went so so well with the runny egg yolk. The dish was perfect with some freshly grounded black pepper)

Price: 7/10 (I thought this dish was very reasonably priced at $12 before GST.. But considering the location, items on the cafe’s menu were priced slightly on the high side.. )

Always gonna be a fan of pineapples on pizza no matter what they say..

Vine-ripened tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, cheddar, pepperoni, classic ham, fresh pineapple chunks

Taste: 8/10 (Thin and crispy crust, quality ingredients, copious amounts of cheese πŸ‘ŒπŸ½)

Price: 7/10 ($18 for an 11” pizza - quite reasonably priced to me..)

The owner was proudly sharing his soup recipe to the diners seated beside us as we were having our meal. His secret? Quality ingredients.

Our hotpot was served with pieces of pork rib and pig tail, lean pork slices, some innards, white clams, huge prawns, crab and white cabbage.

Taste: 7/10

Price: 6/10 (We paid a total of $50 for a huge pot full of quality ingredients and 2 bowls of refillable prawn noodles.. It was definitely not an expensive meal, but considering the soup base was the prawn noodle broth and each bowl of prawn mee goes for $10, I’m not too sure if I would return for this hotpot..)

Having Jin Jin’s signature gangster shaved ice and power chendol before ABC hawker centre is closed for a 2 month renovation! Gonna miss having late night desserts here so much 😭

Taste: 10/10

Price: 9/10 ($2 for chendol was topped with thick, fragrant gula melaka, and only $3 for shaved ice topped with copious amounts of condensed milk, frozen chunks of mango and a scoop of durian puree made freshly from the real fruit. Amazing value IMO)

Ambience: 5/10 (It’s hawker centre so expect the birds gawking at your meal and occasional scream from the cleaning auntie for you to β€œsiam”)

Taste: 10/10 (Perfect for fans of dense cheesecakes!!!)

Price: 5/10 (Relatively pricey going at approx $12 a slice)

I have been a huge fan of Tonkatsu by Ma Maison since my college days.

The famous cutlets, which are fried to a golden crisp, remain amazingly succulent on the inside. There’s also the refillable tonjiru (pork and vegetable miso soup) which goes so so so well with the rice and pork cutlet 😍

While most of my friends go for the juicer Rosu (pork loin) cut, I strictly prefer Hire (fillet) for the leaner and cleaner taste.

Food: 9/10

Price: 7/10 ($22.80 for 120g; $24.80 for 160g)

Ambience: 8/10 (Would recommend the outlet at Mandarin Gallery over the one at Chijmes for more seats and better service)

The rich, creamy and slightly sweet milk-based broth for this dish never fails to impress me.. πŸ’• Perfect for dinner on a rainy night!

Taste: 10/10 (I am a huge fan of soupy dishes and personally prefer this dish to more popular renditions like chilli crab and black pepper crab)

Price: 6/10 (Not the cheapest. $70/kg of crab)

Ordered the fragrant milk tea on my second visit to this franchise of a Taiwanese bubble tea chain. The first time, I got the instafamous grey milk tea with pudding and though the tea tasted pretty underwhelming (esp. against the price tag), the topping was so good!

I visited again with a few colleagues hoping to try out different flavours and also utilise the 1-for-1 promotion on my Burpple Beyond app.

It was a very decent experience for me, as the staff were all extremely friendly and took time to explain the differences between each drink. For example, this fragrant milk tea I ordered contained more creamer than fresh milk, resulting in a stronger and more aromatic flavour. Pearl-wise, their pearls were just the right level of softness for me, but was lacking slightly in sweetness.

Please let me know if you have had a better peanut pancake than this. I have been trying out mian cheng kueh from different stalls and have not come across anything quite as good.

Taste: 10/10

Price: 9.5/10 (Handmade daily by an elderly couple, it’s almost strange to me that each slice of this Chinese pancake only costs 80cents! Definitely great value for money)

Thinly sliced avocado, marinated feta cheese, and zaaka on toasted sourdough bread - perfect way to kickstart a busy day. I have been to this pretty cafe founded by the people behind Sarnies a few times already. As expected, the food served has been consistently good. Definitely worth a try!

Taste: 7.5/10

Price: 7/10 (Full slice for $10 before GST)

I have never been a huge fan of carrot cake. I had expected this dish to be unimpressively starchy and bland (as usual), but this rendition definitely proved me wrong with its rich flavour profile!!! The pudding-like carrot cake was soft yet bouncy, and contained generous pieces of Chinese cured meat (lap cheong) and fresh radish which gave the dish a very unique texture. The refreshing savoury sauce they doused all over the steamed carrot cake also was a huge flavour boost. I thought it tasted like a stronger version of the chee cheong fun sauce - which I have always been a HUGE fan of! πŸ˜‚

Taste: 9/10

Price: 10/10 (This huge serving only set us back by $4. I would say most dishes at this humble dim sum eatery are extremely value for money)

Ambience: 7/10

This rendition of my favourite Nonya curry dish was homely yet fancy. The fresh shrimps, together with the hebi (dried shrimps), gave the vegetable curry a very deep and aromatic flavour. I would could have easily finished a plate full of rice just with this dish on the side. It was THAT GOOD! πŸ’•

Taste: 9/10

Price: 7/10 (We paid approx. $15 for this dish. It’s a pretty decent price considering Nonya food is usually pretty expensive)

Ambience: 7.5/10 (Would definitely recommend other Peranakan places like Blue Ginger or Violet Oon for better ambience)

Service: 6/10
