Went there at around 3pm on a weekday and they only had 2 flavours - chendol ($7) and durian chendol ($9). When I enquired about the flavour of the week, they said it was still being prepared, and they were unsure what it is and when itโll be ready (wonder if I misheard ๐คจ). Anyway we just got one of each, which was quite a bummer bc I was looking forward to something chocolatey. (After 10 mins or so we saw some kind of chocolate soft serve being served to another customerโฆ oh wells)
Though it looks nice and the portion is v generous, I found it way too sweet and definitely too much for one person. Durian was nice but also added to the jelakness.
Came here for the burpple beyond but got the four-course sets instead! Costs $29 each and after gst and service charge, $34 each!! Definitely much more value-for-money than getting ala carte dishes. I think the sirloin main course itself is alr $33 and the mango sago dessert is $9??? Also, it comes with free flow coffee/tea ๐
There were two choices for the set menu and we got one of each since the min. order was 2. The left column is the Asian Set while on the right is the Western Set. Canโt rmb the fancy names of the dishes so err ya haha
๐ฅกAsian Set๐ฅก
1) Salmon potato ball/cake salad
2) 3 egg spinach soup
3) Braised seafood white bee hoon
4) Mango sago with ice cream
๐ดWestern Set ๐ด
1) Smoked salmon salad
2) Cream of pumpkin
3) Sirloin with asparagus and mashed potato
4) Brownie with ice cream
On the whole, the food was enjoyable. The colour of the seafood bee hoon wasnโt what we expected though, a bit too brown right?? But the prawns were large. Also, the medium-well beef was quite bloody so we requested for it to be cooked more but it became well done instead... yeah but itโs ok la the welldone wasnโt too tough or anything!
Service is good and ambience not bad, not crowded for a Friday night. Although spending $10/$15+ for a zichar dish like seafood bee hoon may be unusual, u shld give this place a try ๐
Seeing the snaking queue of their neighbor Punggol Nasi Lemak, Penang Bagusโ business paled in comparison. Besides a middle-aged couple, we were the only customers on a Saturday evening. They serve a mixture of Penang, Tze Char and Korean food...doesnโt that make you want to try it already??? hehe. Prices are quite ok too โ penang specials are around $6, $7 while tze chars are like $8.90, $11.90 ish. Hereโs what we had:
๐ฅLor Bak
Pork in beancurd skin served with tau gua, century egg and fishball.
๐คPenang Prawn Mee (Upsized)
Nice!!! Prawns were big and fresh. A nice mix of yellow noodles and beehoon.
๐ฅฆ3 Egg Spinach
This was a pleasant surprise - it doubled as a light soup as well hehe.
๐Mongolian Pork Ribs $11.90
Really good and generous (~10 pieces ๐ฏ)!! Sauce was rich and flavorful (and perhaps a bit too much) and the meat was cooked perfectly.
Used beyond (penang special w drink set and Tze char) and added up to $27 only ๐ฑ Felt so bad bc it was so cheap haha but will definitely come back!!! Totally wont mind paying the original price. And would try the Korean dishes such as bingsu and toast ๐ service is good too the aunty introduced their homemade chili and recommended the curry fish head for our next visit.
Just putting this out here ๐ this is beef tonkotsu ramen. Really like the texture of the noodles! Soup was nice but I kept thinking about how much msg there would be in there hahahaha
This place is seriously a gem! Not only is the food good, the service is great and fast and the interior retro!!! Never disappoints every time. Pictured here are half white chicken, za cai (mixed veg), beef hor fun and chicken feet skin in thai sauce.
Chicken was ๐๐ skin was perfect and jellyish. Za cai was slightly salty. Beef in the hor fun was good, like it was tenderly tough ๐ค And the cold chicken feet skin โ highly recommended!!!!!
Add-on chicken rice was $1 /plate and quite a generous serving. Our group of four had a bowl of soup each although we only ordered two plates of rice. (soup is very good!!!)
There are a few vouchers on fave, but they can only be used at the outlet in far east plaza.
2 mini bowls for $5 using beyond!! When using beyond you can only have jap white rice as the base (the other option is jap brown rice). Had the garlic butter shrimp and grilled beef. Both were very flavorful and went well w the fish skin! The owner recommended the cajun fish skin and it was indeed not bad. Would def come back to get the normal sized bowl for $9.90 ๐
1) Tamago with Unagi Don $15.90
2) Tamago with Salmon Don $12.90
3) Tamago with Teriyaki Chicken Don
4) Kei Signature Kaisen Don (Small, 90g) $12.90
This tiny place only has 2 staff and seems unassuming at first but they actually serve very good dons ๐ Very skillfully prepared. Unagi was soft, salmon sweet, chicken large and tender, sashimi fresh!!!! Tamago (egg roll) came with aburi mentaiko. There are 3 options of meal top-up: we payed $3 for salad and refillable (!!) soup and tea. They also served complimentary free-flow (!!!!) green tea eggs but I feel like they were like normal braised eggs, not much taste. Service was gr8 as well ๐๐ Had an enjoyable meal.
Fun experience ๐ ๐ This halal establishment is homely, cozy and friendly; probably fits at most 3 groups of 4 ppl. Costs $18.90 for 1.5h (Fave voucher $13.90). At first I was worried about the cooking time but apparently it only takes 4-8min to cook one. And also apparently each customer gets 2 free drumlets but we didnโt ๐ They also serve spaghetti and mushroom soup. Choices of drinks include green tea and honey&calamansi. Reservations are required so call/text 9844 0210 before going down!
(read on for spoilers)
They have a variety of toppings: shrimp, tuna flakes, chicken ham, chicken hotdog, minced beef, beef pepperoni, crabstick balls, pineapple, peppers, mushroom, corn, onion, olives, cheese....... You can also make sweet pizzas, with toppings such as Nutella, kaya, chocolate chips, fruity pebbles, rainbow sprinkles, oreo crumbs, desiccated coconut and Gula Melaka.
Though the cookie only has two flavours (choc or matcha), there are lotsa ice cream flavours to choose from!!! Premium flavours +$0.50 while Specialty flavours +$1 (or maybe itโs the other way round ๐ค). Cookie was moist/crumbly/chewy. The ice cream was bland :( Could have more lava I feel haha. They serve tea w interesting names. Hot tea costs $4 while cold is $4.50.
The Communal Place has a nice interior with spacious wooden tables and random we bare bears plushies sitting on some tables HAHA. Went there on a Sat evening and there were only 2 other tables occupied. I feel that itโs underrated tbh because all the dishes were enjoyable and plated nicely :-(( Food was served v quickly too โ I think we only waited for like 10 mins. Hereโs what we had, clockwise starting from the biggest picture:
Nice and tender. Had it medium well. Beef cuts vary everyday; mine was US striploin. Read that another burppler had sirloin. They both look the same nonetheless.
Bouillabaisse is a French seafood stew but I would say that itโs more like a seafood bisque to me. Quite generous servings of mussels (6), baby octopus (3?), fish (2 small chunks) and prawn (2?). Bouncy octopus and prawns.
Nice. 4 medium-sized ribs. Corn was fragrant!!
Linguine topped with an onsen egg. Pieces of beef cheek, though little both size and qty wise, were soft and enjoyable.
Salmon was skillfully cooked. Flaky and juicy. Um the miso sauce though, tasted dubiously similar to the bouillabaisse o_o (edit: the sauce is not supposed to be miso but is a bouillabaisse foam. Miso -> miso glazed salmon damn hahahaha Iโm a noob)
Ordered a glass of the welcome drink that they served after we sat down bc it was that nice. Slightly fizzy with pomelo pulp. But the one we ordered sadly didnโt taste as nice.
Using beyond, the bill added up to $82 after service charge and gst. Water was FOC. Would recommend this place!!!! ๐๐ผ
I can see you doubting the title of this post HAHA but yeah my pictures donโt do justice to the aesthetics of the plating and deco. Overall good quality food and nice ambience. Great for meetups/studying (sockets available at some tables and I think thereโs wifi buuut depending on what time u go there might be some ny/njc/hc etc students). Slightly expensive tho and if youโre a bargain hunter but donโt have the Entertainer app like me, u could purchase the voucher from Fave which allows u to have one main + drink for $13.90. Note that only selected drinks are applicable and three of the mains have to add $3. But overall still quite worth la. Hereโs what we ordered:
1) Crispy Battered Fish with Mentaiko Sauce and Cabbage Slaw $18
Batter was crispy and fish was not bad; an okay portion. Salad was okay. But it looked slightly sad compared to my friendโs soy glazed salmon with kimchi friend rice. เฒ ษทเฒ
2) Soy Glazed Salmon with Kimchi Fried Rice $17
Picture says it all. ๐๐
Served with three small fried wantons stuffed with kimchi. The salmon, according to my friend, melts in the mouth.
3) Matcha Berries Mochi Waffle $12.50
Matcha waffles were chewy/tangy/gooey, which was interesting. Served with a rich chocolate soft serve which Iโm guessing itโs one of their sogurts? And of course there were berries โ strawberry slices and blueberries. And lil marshmallows. And some nice crumbly biscuit (probably digestives?? Iโm bad at identifying tastes haha).
4) Roselle Tea $5
Too sweet/concentrated imo.
5) Solero Split Soda $6.50
Haha was enticed by its description. Ah that used-to-be-80ยข ice cream (is it still??). It does have that taste, but a bit too concentrated for my liking. Expected the drinks to have better presentation.
