Doughy bread packed with creamy purple slaw and pulled pork knuckle. The bbq sauce was light and didn't overpower. The pulled pork in this sandwich isn't the soaking wet sort so the sandwich didn't get soggy. As it's made with pork knuckle, there's also a good mixture of lean meat, fat and chewy tendon. This sandwich was huge! The side of fries was also tasty. The ambience at Prive Cafe is really bright, airy and cheery. Love the sea foam green interior!! 🌻
A large piece of chicken thigh slathered generously with salted egg yolk sauce. The sauce packed a potent salted egg flavour and I liked that it isn't too milky or creamy. The puddle of sauce did make the batter on the chicken soggy but... You really can't have your cake and eat it. More sauce > chicken gets soggy more quickly. I will take extra sauce any day. My chicken first came raw on the inside but the staff was apologetic and promptly replaced the whole dish for me, which I appreciated. The chicken was tender but I found the cut of meat to be a little too fatty. This resulted in quite a greasy mouthfeel, especially since it is deep fried. However, the sesame slaw on the side was a good palate cleanser. I think this is a decent dish given the generous portion and affordable price ($12 nett), so long as you don't let the hype surrounding salted egg yolk anything affect your expectations.
Unlike the pancakes we are familiar with, this Dutch pancake is more like a crepe that is thicker and more spongy. The edges are also thin and crispy. It has a pleasant eggy taste that goes well with the caramel, bananas and ice-cream. This treat comes in a generous serving so I would recommend sharing it with a friend!
Huge burrito with juicy cubes of grilled steak!! The spice rub for the steak is amazing, and the meat is grilled just right - very succulent. 🌯
A humongous bowl of tortilla chips, smothered in guacamole, sour cream, salsa and tasty minced beef ($13.50)!! It's so yummy but also HUGE so do order a small main if you are planning to stuff your face with this. Also, eat fast because the generous amount of guac makes the chips go soggy quite quickly.
Free The Robot is such a pretty little cafe with plenty of daylight and a really laid back, homely vibe. The chilled vanilla infused with espresso is nutty and smooth and great for those who enjoy coffee but don't want too much of it. The signature contains coconut oil and tastes really refreshing. You won't go wrong with either beverage! On to my main: my pasta ($12) came with a rich velvety cream sauce and the chicken meatballs were sooo tender and flavourful. Definitely coming back for more!
Er what this review lacks in terms of pictorial food porn Mui Kee makes up for with its amazing congee! This is located on the topmost floor of a wet market. Get past the stinky fishy stalls and you'll be rewarded with a piping hot bowl of tasty tasty congee. We had the century egg + pickled pork congee and it came with really huge chunks of century egg. Also get urself a side or two of dough fritters that are SUPER crispy which makes them superb for dunking in the congee since they don't get soggy easily.
I was rather unimpressed though this has been awarded 1 Michelin star. Too little meat on the goose! Where there was meat, the meat was quite tough. The char siew on the other hand was chunky, sweet and fatty 😋 There's a minimum spending of something like 45HKD per person but that works out to 1 plate of roast meat rice per customer so I don't think it's a problem.
Just the best beef brisket noodles I've ever had. Very tender beef brisket and slippery rice noodles (thin kway teow) in a delicious stock. Slurped it all up! You can opt for flat noodles, which is basically mee pok. My friends did so and said that their mee pok was super gd cause al dente ~ hahahaha.
Check out the crowd. We queued for slightly over an hour (but we were lame and went on the Fathers' Day Sunday) and queuing is orderly because it's by a number system. Remember to approach the staff to get a queue number once you arrive!! Everything is great~ oh this place doesn't serve liusha buns. That item that sounds like it isn't it - they are custard buns (top rightmost). The 咸水角 here are crisper than the ones at Dim Dim Sum and don't contain wasabi but they are "hollower" (not that it shld matter, unless you think like my pals ~ quality over quantity guys!) the beef balls are very 鲜 (I don't mean fishy) but they are more starchy than those at Dim Dim Sum. The cheong fun (not pictured :() was soooo smooth and soft and slippery 😋 Siu mai (has crab roe!!) and har gao were great as always. Heh. The rightmost photo in the 2nd row features chilled mango wrapped in a glutinous rice skin coated with coconut. Something like a chilled mango ondeh ondeh. The staff recommended this and it was the best palate cleanser!
The polo buns were amazing! Beyond the fluffy and slightly chewy warm exterior lies a buttery sweet fillling with chunks of tart pineapple. 🍍🍍🍍 These were so good especially served and eaten fresh. The usual dim sum suspects like siu mai, beef balls (quite uncommon in Singapore), char siew buns and har gao were yummy. I personally love the chewiness of 咸水角 so I liked that too (note the ones here have a wasabi kick to them) but my friends didn't fancy them cause they are hollow. 🙄 The radish cake is nice and soft, and is studded with chunks of radish. 👍🏼 The cute items ie mushroom buns and pig liusha buns were great for sprucing up the spread but were a disappointment in terms of taste.
Dropped by for brekkie because this was really near our Airbnb apartment. (In my humble opinion... don't bother with Airbnb in HK because it doesn't seem to be much cheaper than hotels + we had an insane time locating our apartment due to the obscurity of the street signs.) HK breakfast sets are HUGE! I had the satay beef noodles, which is nothing like satay in Singapore. It tasted more like sliced beef stir fried in oyster sauce. But it was not bad! This came with toast + eggs (you get to choose between scrambled and sunny side up) and a beverage. I thought the scrambled eggs here were really good!! Texture-wise, they were also gooey like ADC's... In fact, I'd say they were creamier! And more importantly, less salty (though still a tad saltier than I would have liked). This place also has a more extensive menu but only the breakfast sets are available in the morning.
