Naughty Nuri's at Capitol Piazza is better than the one in Bali. Sorry, but it's true. The St. Louis ribs are better than the ribs used in Ubud, (a good mix of lean and juicy, fatty meat) the side dishes less fried but much more tastier, and the cocktails (peanut Mai tai FTW) were amazing. Ah Koong Fishball Noodle We decided to give the Palette at Capitol Piazza a try on a sluggish Sunday afternoon, and good thing we did. Tucked in the basement level, Palette is reminiscent of the typical atas indoor hawker food courts (something like a food republic). However the selection is quite good and we were chuffed to find an Ah Koong. Although not spectacular, the food really hit the spot in a secret guilty way only crack cocaine can match. Flavourful slightly greasy noodles with salty crunchy bits and the spiced fishball soup were the perfect hungry man's teatime snack. We arrived grumpy, we left happy. So consider it a cheaper alternative to your weekly therapy session. Enjoy!

Nutty Profession $6.50 🍫🥛☕️ Probably 600 calories of Nutella dunked in with an espresso popsicle served with a mini thing of warm milk! 🍫☕️🥛 Thanks to this I was completely wide awake at 3am! I had this at 830pm 😂 🍫☕️🥛 It is such a good combination though it takes a while for the Nutella to simmer down and blend well with the milk and espresso. 🍫☕️🥛 Definitely try their ondeh ondeh cake as well! Crispy Skin Salmon $17 Loveeee this. Returned to this cafe cose of this dish. Enough cream base soup with salmon and the salmon skin remain crispy!! They had baby potatoes too

The Carnivore $28 I took all meat platter which comes with chicken and lamb slices. Black pepper sauce was nice for this. Pricey but good. Dono if it’s worth it but it was nice haha it comes along with boiled broccoli, bacon, fries and sunny side up egg.

French Toast Set ($8.20) The French Toast is the most expensive breakfast item on Tong Ah's menu. I will probably order this dish rather than the kaya toast because they are topped with a couple dollops of kaya and slices of butter which allow you to better taste the kaya. The French Toast itself is decent with a nice crepe-like layer of egg coating the bread but there is (of course) not going to be enough kaya or butter to spread on all of the French Toast. I hate to say so but Tong Ah's horribly overpriced. Yes, rental is mad and inflation is painful but Tong Ah does its food no justice with how they try to cut corners and save costs.

Crispy Thin Kaya Toast Set ($6.80) I personally prefer the 'non-traditional' crispy thin kaya toast for its wafer-like crunchy texture. I cannot recall if they charge extra for butter with their kaya toast but the interesting thing is that they would cut it into thin slices and place it in a bowl of ice water to keep it cold and ensure that it keeps its form and does not melt completely when it is served. A lovely touch but my gripe is that the thin stripe of butter was so small that it was as thin as (and if not thinner) than the thin toast itself and left me thoroughly dissatisfied. I can't help but feel that I'm paying more for the old school atmosphere than for the food itself, seeing how they seem to 'stinge' on their ingredients...

Traditional Kaya Toast Set Meal ($6.20) Tong Ah Eating House might not have the same name recognition as Yakun but I am sure everyone knows the iconic white building at the junction of Keong Saik Road and Teck Lim Road. which bears its name in red. The coffeeshop has shifted down the road but continues to retain its old school charm and is most famous for their kaya toast and tze char dishes. Their signature traditional kaya toast features thick soft toasted white bread with kaya spread in between. I knew I was in for a treat as the kaya was a dull greenish grey instead of a pandan green colour. This usually means that the kaya was made in house, fresh and without the use of food colouring. I liked that their kaya was subtly sweet with a nice strong pandan note. My only (big) qualm was that they spread the kaya (very) thinly to the point that parts of the bread seemed to be untouched. For those who are counting, they are charging the same (or similar) to Toastbox (which has attracted some negative press for their pricing). I therefore find it quite hard to categorise it as "cheap and good" as burpple seems to have done.

Peach Softserve With Toast Had the peach which was very light and natural tasting. Texture isn't the smoothest, rather icy but the taste won me over. Very lovely with the slight floral tasting longan honey ($0.10) drizzled on top of the toast ($1). Toast was nondescript - super crisp, hard and bland. Could do with a lot more butter! But I guess if you treat it as a biscuit to munch on together with the cool softserve all would be good.

Weather is damn hot as we continued our trail. Individual flavour at S$4.50, cup or cone. Was expecting the soft serve to taste better but we were disappointed boohoo. I thought milk tea-anything will not go too wrong, but ...😭 we barely ate half. ➊ [Heavy Chocolate + Peanut Butter S$5] ➋ [Milk Tea + Peach Love S$5]

Hmmm how should I say this? The ice cream here was horrible. Worst $10 spent. Lucky it made a pretty picture.

Red Velvet Cake >$5 Cake was good and yummy. I think fix is only good at their desert section.

Fried Chicken With Green Chilli Set >$12 Barely tasted the chicken. A lot of batter added to the chicken. I know they trying to make it crispy but not like that. And the green chilli sauce was okay. Nothing fantastic. Disappointing.

Salmon Set >$20 It looks pathetic and tasted the same. Not buying that ever again. Miss their old menu which include naanwich etc. Now it's just like every other cafes selling basic food.

◾Mont Noir [$8] Everyone knows the matcha powerhouse that is @hvala_sg - a place that combines both the delectable Japanese tea and the arts. I've popped by the different Hvala outlets here and there but I didn't make a proper visit to try out their gorgeous desserts until recently. One of the entremets that caught my eye was their Mont Noir. It was a tough decision to pick between the Noir and the Matcha Mont Blanc variation but I went with the Noir in the end. Filled with chantilly cream, sesame feuilletine, sesame chestnut paste and almond frangipane. The Earthy dessert checked off all my sesame boxes, with a subtle hint of sweetness. Compared to their Matcha offerings, this was much more tamed and definitely helped to cut through the richness if you're having any of their Matcha drinks/desserts. I still feel like I've not fully explored the menu at Hvala and I'm definitely down to head back soon.

Tea Break Hojicha latte is soothing although I prefer it hotter. The Matcha latte is smooth and good. The sesame ice cream is thick "gao". I prefer eating this to their sesame cake. I chose the green tea ice cream level 2. I think I am a green tea lover. I am gonna try level 3 the next time as I prefer it stronger.

Matcha Galore For Matcha lovers, this is the place to go. Went in a weekday night and yet the place was packed. Ordered Matcha Latte, matcha ice cream and Matcha cake. The decor was very Zen. Minimalist and peaceful. They have a time limit of 90 mins for each table so that others can enjoy the ambience.

The 72% & 66% Dark Valrhona Chocolate Mousse with Chocolate sponge was glazed with Dark Chocolate, and topped with edible soil and flowers. It was a breeze digging through this creamy and chocolatey chocolate cake.

Lycee Rose and Galaxy Cakes There were no seats when my friends and I visited but the cakes were so pretty and so we decided to takeaway. The lychee rose cake is light and nice. The galaxy cake, though pretty, was just regular chocolate. The cakes are relatively pricey as well!

Aloha Poke Bowl ($13.50++) Pretty classic poke bowl The sushi rice is a little hard. Fresh ingredients and adding a squeeze of lime really brightened the dish. Overall solid.

Dos Amigo (Grilled Eel, Avocado, Cream Cheese) Part of me wants to keep ordering delivery & takeaway while part of me wants to dine in. These maki were packed with ingredients with just the right amount of rice. I fell in love with their Dos Amigo. The combination of grilled eel, avocado & cream cheese is heavenly good, keeps me wanting more. Especially with the additional of cream cheese, it enhances the creaminess but not overpowering. ⁣⁣ Sunkissed Salmon was a good alternative for me, topped with seared salmon & tobiko while being stuffed with crabstick & avocado. Aloha Poke Bowl | $12.95 Salmon & tuna, mesclun, avocado, cucumber, tamago, onion, fish roe, alfalfa, sesame seed & classic soy sauce. This poke bowl was good, filled with many cubes of fresh sashimi, mixed with their soy sauce and rice, every mouthful had avocado, tamago and sashimi.

Durian, passion fruit and mango ice cream mochi Think the mochi dough is quite thick and filling. Would prefer sorbets and ice cream to this.

Cookies & Cream Really really liked the chewy outer layer. The cookies and cream flavour is not very apparent so don't recommend this. If you're like me and can't bite into ice, recommend to just leave it in your mouth to let it melt!

Ice Cream Mochi The mochi store located at the bridge between Bugis Junction & Bugis+. Always passing by the store but never once had I thought of trying it because I am not a fan of mochi. Little did I know, I have been missing out so much on this! This is actually Mochi Ice Cream, my favourite flavour is milk(blue). This is really so good, much thanks to people who loves these and recommended me. They are now having islandwide delivery for a very affordable fee of just $5!
