The Asakawa-en Matcha is also decent, but we felt that the earthy matcha flavour was a tad subtle. We figured it might be due to the matcha being overpowered by the milk. Slightly underwhelming considering the bright green hue and that ceremonial grade matcha was being used. 🍵

One of the most popular items is their Signature Warabimochi Drinks, kinda like BBT with a refreshing twist - loaded with QQ mochi strips that glide down your throat. Between the two drinks we ordered, the Strawberry Milk is easily the clear winner! The fruity & creamy combination of Hokkaido milk & freeze-dried strawberry mochi base reminded me of a slice of strawberry shortcake! 🍓

You can enjoy the warabimochi in a 2-piece cup, or share a box of 5 or 10 with your friends! Every piece is so soft and chonky while generously dusted with kinako powder. Would recommend drizzling the kuromitsu syrup for an extra malty sweetness! (P.S.: Try to avoid eating this in windy weather unless you don't mind the mess 😆)

Good to know Hundred Acre Creamery @hundredacre.sg now have a 3rd outlet at Westgate, slightly nearer to the Sunset Way branch!

Their outlet-exclusive Truffle Cheese Waffles waffles have a slightly dense but soft base underneath a crispy exterior, just like our favourite Pandan Mochi Waffles. Surprisingly, the distinct truffle oil fragrance paired well with the sweet-savoury combo of baked cheese and maple syrup! Recommend getting gelato with a similar taste profile so they won't get overpowered by the waffle, so Roasted Pistachio Ice Cream or Sea Salt Butter Caramel Biscotti would work here.

Aside from the Chicken Pho, the Value Meal set also comes with fried and fresh summer rolls! Tried the fried version & they were decent, not too oily and stuffed with generous meat fillings.

Was tempted to stuff my mouth full with the 10-inch Bánh Mì, but honestly, their Chicken Pho (Pho Ga) Value Meal was too irresistible to pass up! 🍜⁣ Inevitable pho-related pun aside, it was a pretty pho-tastic experience slurping up the smooth rice noodles and tender shredded chicken slices with their broth. Tastes even better with the added heat from the cut chilli padi. The clear soup is already very flavorful with a subtle herbal aroma but goes HARD with the heat from the chilli padi & the fresh tang of the sliced lime. 👍🏻

It's uncommon to find an authentic cup of Egg Coffee in SG, much less a good one. Although not a coffee lover, I enjoyed their silky smooth concoction, with the creamy egg foam complimenting the dark roasted coffee flavour!

If you need a thirst quencher in the warm weather, the 𝗚𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗮 is perfect for sharing between two people!⁣

There's always something charming about claypot dishes, and given that tofu dishes are our favourite in tze char, we definitely had to try the 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗳𝘂 here. The tofu cubes are soft and bouncy, similar to the tofu fishcakes used in hotpot places. The minced meat braised sauce is moreish with a tolerable spice level, although it was slightly saltier towards the end. ⁣

The signature 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗻-𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸/小炒肉 may look like a simple stir-fry at first glimpse, but it's well executed and big on flavours! The tender Iberico pork slices are smoky and mildly spicy, with the aroma emanating from the black bean sauce and garlic. The sliced green pepper and white fungus also added a nice crunchy texture to the dish. It tastes so homely - we pretty much demolished our rice with this! 💚⁣

If there's one place I would travel to satisfy my cravings for old-school Western food, it would be Rasa Sayang Western Food! The lunch crowd here would usually go for their thicc & crispy Chicken Cutlet or the also generously portioned Chicken Chop. But I'd always gravitate towards the latter for the mushroom sauce. It's well-balanced, not overly salty and has a subtle hint of sweetness that goes well with the tender chicken chop. The meat portions were definitely not as huge as they used to be before, but still bang for your buck given that it's also adorned with a selection of 4 sides like garlic bread and fries. While the crinkle-cut fries were average and didn't impress, the garlic bread was crumbly & buttery enough to mop up the rest of the sauce!

New year, old favourites at Chinatown Complex Food Center! Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken 瑪莉亞處女雞⁣ remains one of my favourite soy sauce chicken stalls in Chinatown, and I personally rate it slightly higher than a certain former Michelin Bib Gourmand stall within the same hawker centre. 🐔 The meat under the glistening soya-sauce glazed skin is firmer than those from other stalls but it remains juicy & tender, and a subtle rose wine aroma permeates through each bite. The only gripe I have is that the rice can be served warmer, though I can look past it because of how good the chicken was.

Highly recommend trying their braised tofu at $1.60 apiece before they are sold out for the day! Soaked in the same braising sauce as the chicken, the silky soft tofu melts in the mouth like a pudding!
