🏮 Wish Upon A Lantern($26) Inspired by Chinese sky lanterns, this drink lets you write your wishes on lanterns and release them after. They say alcohol solves all problems, but what they didn't mention is that you might be too drunk to remember the problems. The drink is beautifully crafted with gin, mangosteen juice, lime, Thai basil and palm sugar cordial, Kyoho Murasaki grape liqueur, and kewra water. A sweet and tart remedy that grows stronger and more lovable with each sip.

🍀 Lucky Charm($24) Hoping for luck with this burnt amulet drink. A robust concoction of Cempedek scotch, peppermint, coconut water, gula melaka, carob, jaggery, and coconut shurb. A rustic and strong drink, delivering a powerful boozy punch.

🏡 The Homecoming($23) A delightful blend of white rum, snow pear mixture, bird nest, apple chestnut liqueur, and peach gum. It's like sipping on a homely bird nest tonic, made with love and a splash of alcohol. A taste of traditional desserts with a boozy twist.

Prawn Aglio Olio The Prawn Aglio Olio ($16) is the bomb - the tiger prawns are huge, crunchy and succulent, and the al dente linguine tossed in olive oil, garlic confit, mushroom, chilli and Italian parsley is very aromatic. Love this!

Steep’s Breakfast Steep’s Breakfast ($19) comes with sourdough toast, eggs, turkey bacon, herb sausage, avocado, sautéed mushroom, mixed greens, tater tots and roasted tomato. This is a very hearty big breakfast and I love the variety found in one plate.

Chocolate No 2 Less milky and slightly thick for chocolate drink ($7.50)

Lowef Cheese Burger ($20) add-on of bacon ($3.50) and my friend choose coleslaw.

Portobello Burger ($18) with add-on smoked salmon ($3.50) but the menu for their lunch is quite limited tbh. I kinda disappointed tbh for the limited choice. But their burger is not that bad tbh and the sauce was quite nice also. So the smoked salmon was quite not that smelly and also their cheese for mushroom was quite juicy and savoury. Their side dish can be choose between picky cucumber and also coleslaw.

Passed by and saw many people at this coffeeshop, so decided to stop by. It was Fried Hokkien Mee from Changi Village Hawker Centre (not the toa payoh Changi Village hokkien mee). Fish Soup ($5 + 50cents koka noodles). This fish soup would change my life, not because it's the best fish soup in Singapore, but it's the only good one I know of near my house, besides First Street at Kovan. This means that I don't have to brave the horrendous parking at First Street fish soup, nor drive all the way to Maxwell and Amoy to get my fish soup fix. 🔸 While I usually like sliced fish over fried fish, this stall does the fried ones better. Soup was refreshing, probably due to the use of vegetables such as bittergourd and cabbages. I love their fried egg, which remains crispy after hours (yes, I dabao some home and they were still crispy at night). A new job at a different neighbourhood also means new lunch ‘kakis’ and new lunch spots. With a noticeable lunch queue, Lu Jia Fish Soup 盧家鱼汤 located at Soon Hong Eating House, A’Posh BizHub, is rumored to have one of the best sliced fish soup in Yishun and I must agree that it was pretty good. Having a bowl of Mixed Fish Soup ($4.50), the clear broth was pleasantly sweet and both types of fish slices were well-executed. Coupled with a generous portion of sliced fish, the comforting soup had a nice depth of flavour yet light as natural sweetness from the shredded ginger and vegetables were clearly present. For something heartier and rich, you can also choose to have milk added in and yam rice instead. They also have fried fish skins and fish bites that you can order as sides, but the best is still their Egg Floss that goes for an additional $1 and can be served separately. Yum, next I will have to try their Salmon Fish Soup!

Cosy Taiwanese Bento Meals Small booth tucked away in the middle of the basement of Wisteria Mall. Have tried the 贡丸汤(meatball soup), 卤肉饭(braised minced pork rice), 咖哩卤肉饭 (curry minced pork rice - featured here) and 三猪便当 (pork 3 ways bento - features here). My fave was the bento with pork 3 ways even though i was surprised that the pork cutlet was braised, not fried, and actually nice (a good balance between the fatty pork belly and minced meat). Overall, the dishes were decently good; not too salty and felt like homecooked food, especially the meatball. But there was inconsistency in the soup, and was too peppery on the 2nd try. The wintermelon drink (featured here) was also tad too sweet for my liking. It's not that cheap but worth a try if you are in the vincinity and are craving for Taiwanese fare! Recommend to try the 贡丸汤(meatball soup) + 卤肉饭(braised minced pork rice) set as a sampler!

Signature Braised Pork Bento Had always been wanting to try 黑轮食堂 Hei Lun Shi Tang for quite a while; but i guess I never really had it in mind whenever I visit Queenstown because I often get more distracted by the hawker stalls at Alexandra Village Food Centre instead. Pretty glad that they had opened a new outlet at Wisteria Mall at Yishun, which I made it a point to visit since it had landed up north — though the space does seem smaller occupying a kiosk that seats around 15 pax. Not sure if they had the Scallion Oil noodle at the Wisteria Mall outlet, but I still found it hard not to go for the Signature Braised Pork Rice given this is one of the items that most do seem to go for there. Felt that the braised pork rice here is definitely of a different league as compared to the ones served at Eat Three Bowl at Crawford and Really Something at Chinatown Complex; the version here does feel less spruced up — perhaps more homey even for how the minced meat still remains moist, but retains a good bite overall for some texture. The other elements such as the preserved vegetable helps to cut through the meat and rice; the rice aptly drenched with enough sauce for a slightly saltish note, while the braised cabbage and soft chunks of carrot provides a more wholesome feel and a fresh and slightly sweet note — the braised cabbage also adding a bit of crunch. Overall, not a bowl of braised pork rice that attempts to sweep one off their feet, but more of a simpler, hearty variant that comforts the soul.

Beef rendang ($25) 🐄 8/10 If you're looking for authentic and delicious peranakan food, look no further than @the.blueginger . I obviously have a palate inclined towards western flavours. However I was still extremely impressed by the meal! The rendang here is braised for hours and mixed with a sauce rich in ginger, lemongrass, and lime leaf. But what was special was how thick and creamy and coconut-forward the actual rendang was!

Ayam panggang ($16) 🍛 10/10 They really know how to handle their meats here because they turned this unassuming chicken thigh into one of my favourites of the meal. The skin was crispy and the meat so tender! The creamy smokeiness of the sauce will win over even the most stubborn of picky eaters. A dark horse but a crowd favourite in the end.

Ikan goreng cili garam ($22) 🐟 5/10 I'm usually a fan of this style of fish because well... I like little chunks of deep fried meat. But the fish here was way too dry. What a letdown.

Pasta de Cangrejo ($28) Tonito's pasta de cangrejo features squid ink pasta topped with crispy soft shell crab, breaded squid, charred tomato and finished with a dash of lime. The pairing of the subtly briny squid ink, deep fried seafood and a dash of tangy acidic lime went really well. Tonito's food can be a little hit and miss. I personally prefer their mexican selections (eg the tacos and quesidillla) over the Peruvian and Argentinian selections. Since our #eatup in December last year, Tonito has revamped and streamlined their menu so some of the featured dishes may no longer be available! Tonito is an excellent date location and has decent to good food. It's a tad pricey but do check out their #burpplebeyond deals! Mejillon Negra Tonito's Mejillon Negra features Chilean black mussels, chorizo and tiger prawns in a seafood bisque infused with Lustau dry sherry wine. I enjoyed the rich, creamy and savoury seafood bisque which has a nice hint of the spicy notes of the dry sherry wine. Some may find the dry sherry a little too crisp and tart for their liking but I'm perfectly fine wiping up the bisque with their mini baguettes!

Fish Tacos Some of my fellow #burpplers at the #eatup who have been to Tonito previously raved about their signature fish tacos and it was not hard to understand why. Crispy white fish is topped with tartar sauce and pico de gallo (a Mexican salsa) in a soft and fluffy flour tortilla wrap. I loved how the savoury and creamy tartar sauce combined with the sweet and tangy pico de gallo to elevate the subtly sweet and flaky white fish. It's delicious but $20 for 2 tacos is kinda a little too expensive for my tastebuds... Portions-wise, it was also rather small... A pity though that it doesn't fall under the #burpplebeyond deals...

Divine felafel sandwich Not only is this place kosher, halal, and vegan, but it also shows that vegan food can be tasty too <3 I love the fill free sandwich. I also recommend the pita chips and the babaghanoush 🤩

back at my fav place for hummus & pitas! I tried their PITA CHIPS ($3.50) which was 1.5 pitas cut into thin strips & deep-fried till crunchy💥💥 They were then dusted with cajun & za’atar, and served with tahini and harissa. super addictive but pls share bcoz i finished it and the oil was swimming in my stomach HAHA

Yellow Croaker in Sambal Sauce 🌶 ($39.90++) The sambal sauce rendition was pretty fragrant 👍🏻, though I wished the mild sambal could be much more spicier! 🤭 The spice level is very very mild. Love the exterior crisp of the fish!
