Heng Hua Cuisine Xing Hua cuisine is one of my favourite cuisines and just recently I came across some social media posts about such cuisine, thus it leads to my cravings. One of us suggested heading to Yishun Heng Hua Restaurant for a try as she find that the food is pretty decent there. We order a set meal for two at $32 which includes: 1） Herbs-Food Prawns in Bamboo Shoot 药膳竹筒虾 2）Deep Fried Slices of "Tenggui Fish" 炸马鲛鱼 3）Braised Bean Curd with 豆皮芥兰 4) Lor Mee / Mee Sua / Bee Hoon 5) Free Dessert 赠送甜品 as well as some other dishes to share among us. Xing Hua Restaurant is tucked at the far end corner of the HDB block. Those who enjoy herbal soup may enjoy this dish. The number of prawns given was generous and the size of the prawn was relatively big. The natural-tasting soup in the Bamboo Shoot has a good subtle seafood taste in its light herbal taste. I'm glad that they have this in their set menu. The fish is deep fruit to golden perfection and you can dip them in the homemade sauce with garlic. A sweet gravy drenched on the pieces of braised bean curd and stirred fried with Kai Lan, slices of carrot and button mushrooms. The White Lor Mee is also one of Xing Hua's Cuisine Staple Food to order. A version of Chinese La Mian soaked in a flavoursome broth and not as starchy as our traditional braised Lor Mee style. It was a comforting bowl of food especially when it was a wet day. The Lor Mee had included some crispy Pork Belly and vegetables in it. The set meal includes a free dessert and it was white fungus with red date. It was refreshing and not so sweet. What a good ending to our meal.

San Lau Hor Fun Another one of mist recommended dish here, based on Google reviews. This San Lau hor fun have very very generous servings of the fish slices. Portion also quite big. And this taste quite good as well. Hong kong street family restaurant is quite crowded and there's a steady queue for tables.

Har Cheong Gai One of the better prawn paste chicken I had for quite some time. The batter was crispy and tasted good also. This har cheong gai is highly recommended by many reviewers on Google. Most popular dish, based on all the reviews.

White Ckn leg rice w Ckn Char siew and egg 7nett(feng shiing Ckn rice) Ok i was wrong about them, theyre decent, not just serviceable Seeing their salty ginger paste w Spring onions is quite fragrant and lifts the entire meal Props to his excellent deboning, it's really something My brother likes the Ckn alot and not the Ckn Char siew, exactly opposite of me, but i agree that the Ckn is fine. Roasted leg rice add white breast, Ckn Char siew, innards(Feng shiing Ckn rice) Most items were average. White Ckn was the savoury older Ckn type, not much taste. The Basil Fried innards were unique but not particularly cooked, gizzards were tough. Rice was dense and not v flavourful Ckn Char siew was good tho, its got an intense glaze and does taste like Char siew, not honey Ckn chop. Good roast pork but stick to the char siew! Char also serves a good roast pork but unlike the char siew, it's really hard to justify paying so much more when you can get comparable roast pork elsewhere.

Char Siew good! I was really surprised to learn that Char is celebrating its 9th anniversary this year! I mean it didn't seem that long ago when I made the trek down to its OG outlet at Guillermard Road soon after its launch. The char siew was excellent but I did wonder how long it would be able to survive when its kopitiam competitors were able to serve the same dish (albeit less shiok) at a fraction of what they were charging. I am glad to be proven wrong though. I was back a couple of months ago at their new outlet at Jalan Besar. The char siew is still excellent - soft, tender and juicy with a sweet savoury glaze. I do wish though that their char siew had a little crunchier char but that's me nit-picking. At $35 for 200g each of their signature char siew and roast pork, it remains pricey. But I guess it's okay once in a while!

With a revamped menu comes new and innovative dishes, such as the Mala Char Siew that has been marinated with 13 spices, however I would have preferred for it to be spicier and more numbing. The peppery Pig Stomach’s Anxin Chicken Soup is a comforting pot that will be a great bowl before the mains. Other new dishes include the Tornado Butter Egg Prawns and Spicy Sichuan Chicken with Vanilla Ice Cream anyone? WantonFu The Ngoh Hiang was savoury, fresh off the oil, and clearly home made. Fried wanton all so addictive, so light yet packs a fragrant punch with the well marinated meat. The boiled wanton was there to balance the strong flavours while keeping you hooked on for more. Lastly, the fried pork was on the lean side but the amount of melting fats did not disappoint. Honestly, what’s the hold up to try it?

Signature Wanton Fu Noodle (Small) Everything in this bowl of signature Wanton Mee was quite mediocre in my opinion. Perhaps the S$5.00 bowl must be complete with their red chilli sauce, but for those who did not fancy the spice or heat in their noodles, this item might just be meant as a “eat to live” food more than a “live to eat”.

$6 Roasted Pork Belly I enjoyed this, not too oily nor tough or fatty. Quick yummy!

Signature passsionfruit meringue 9.5+gst Finally got my hands on this after years On top of their ulu location, to get a slice you have to call in advance at 1030am on the day itself to check for availability. There was literally just one slice that day lol, but otherwise their sunshine(mango yuzu meringue) should make for a good substitute This cake is really really light, it's no trouble finishing this huge slice at all. The exterior is perfect, it's properly dehydrated and very airy with a good crunch, and the interior is chewy. I'm no baker but I presume it takes great skill to achieve a balanced texture like this. Further, the passsionfruit taste in the cream comes through nicely and works brilliantly Worth a try for sure, though idk if it's worth the trouble

A-Log $72.76 Possibly the best log cake I’ve tasted. The mousse was so creamy and thick and so rich in chocolate. The chocolate coating was a nice complement too. There was also a biscuit base which was filled with biscuits and nuts and chocolate.

Steamed Chicken with Dried Lily Flowers and Black Fungus This steamed chicken with golden needle and black fungus is simple, comforting and full of Cantonese flavours. The steamed chicken was tender and absorbed most of the musky earthy flavour from the golden needle, creating a broth that has all the goodies of chicken after steaming. Not to mention the texture of black fungus was so delicate and smooth. We really enjoyed all the different flavours and textures coming together. With this price, portion is generous with 2 thick slices of pork bellies (Those who enjoy pork belly will cherish this bowl). We normally are not crazy about pork belly but still couldn’t resist it!.
