Pontianak style of bakso gepeng (meatballs made with beef and flour, flat style) and tahu baso with savory beef broth. Here, they add caisim (mustard green), bean sprout, and soybeans for garnish. Best eaten with their homemade chili sauce and splash of kumquat juice.
The most expensive rujak seller in town, i guess. Indonesian fruit salad made with cashew nuts, palm sugar, shrimp paste, and chili sauce. Sweet and dense yet flavorful and addicted, a perfect afternoon nibbling dessert.
Sitting beneath corner across musholla Aisyiyah in Kp. Kauman, Yu Hadi was heritage and legend. She began selling gudeg (i called dry version gudeg) from 1950's. Her gudeg (Javanese dishes made from jackfruit) were less sweet, the sambel krecek (buffalo skin cooked with spicy seasoning) bit dry. Ayam suwir (shredded chicken) were tasty with brownish areh (gravy cooked coconut milk) were good. Half telor bacem was perfect to complete your breakfast. Open from 6am to 10am only.
In Javanese, sego means rice. The famous sego pecel Bu Wiryo consists generous portion of pecel (boiled vegetables such as bean sprout, papaya leaves, string beans, topped with peanut sauce). Tend to be sweet but not overpowering with hot chili hint. Many gorengan applied to enjoy the company such as tahu goreng (fried tofu), tempe goreng tepung (fried tempe with coated flour), risol (spring roll), and many others.
Stall from Goodall Cafe named Ikan Bakar Tong Hai Aun served many grilled fresh seafood. My favorite was Pari Bakar (grilled stingray). First they use banana leaf as grilling base, then spread red paste which have curry hint. Served with shredded onion and sweet tangy sambal belacan. Best eaten with warm rice.
Nyonya dessert made from rice flour, eaten with brown sugar and grated coconut. They use traditional tools to make fresh vermicelli like putu. Penang version are more salty and tasty than plain Jakarta version.
Iberian Pork Collar Salad. The pork was marinated in soya balsamic, served with pickled cabbage and roasted apple. Such well seasoned, tender pork, really good. #burpple
Sweet buttery aftertaste, nutty poppyseed, all blend with tangy lemon zest and juice. Perfect to enjoy with fruit or black tea.
200 gr medium rare NZ tenderloin steak grilled in perfect timing, succulent and juicy inside. Tangy chimmicuri sauce was good companion to mashed herb potatoes and horenso salad with sweet Japanese dressing, all for 95k only. Wanted to try their rib eye and wasabi butter sauce next time.
Bandung version of beef soup. Made from diced of flank and brisket beef, radish, with scallion and fried soya beans for topping.
My all time favorite dessert made with liquor. Basic pie crust filled with chocolate base, layered with smooth custard then topped with coffee icing and vanilla ice cream. A sinful one.
