I’m a big fan of yam paste (orh nee; 芋泥) and anything orh nee piques my interest. With orh nee pastries becoming more popular, why not try the classic yam tart from June Bakery - a hidden gem bakery at The Plaza?

I was first introduced to this place by a friend who used to buy these treats for a group of us. Since then, I couldn’t resist having more than one piece in a single sitting.

For $1.20 a piece, you’ll be treated to a generous serving of orh nee and three pieces of ginkgo nuts encased in a buttery tart crust. The crust itself is extremely delicate and crumbles easily when held in your hand.

What makes it exceptional is that the yam paste is extremely smooth and fragrant, but not too sweet at all. This is better than some of the orh nee that I had at restaurants. The bittersweet ginkgo nuts perfectly complement the sweetness from the yam paste and tart crust.

They are only open on weekdays and these tarts fly off the shelves really fast. So it’s literally the early bird catches the worm situation here. You may pre-order by giving them a call.
