Who knew town has good mala too My friend says this is the best mala she had, hence we made a trip to Wisma Atria to try this: it's on the more savoury end for mala, and if you like spice, it's advisable to go for medium spice, as xiaola doesn't give that kick. For $12, we got a generous bowl of mala. Plus the food court ambience here is good.

Ma La Xiang Guo (price differs by weight) Weirdly, the guy didn't really weigh my chosen ingredients. He just dumped everything into the pot in thr weighing machine, and moved them around as if trying to see how many pieces of mushrooms or tofu I had taken (?). Not complaining though, cos this bowl only set us back by $10.80 (with 2 bowls of rice). Ordered the 大辣 and was pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of seasonings - sweet and salty with a good amount of numbness in the chilli oil. This was not my first time trying this stall - I did 3-4 years ago, but they have significantly improved that I found myself enjoying this so much! Some may complain of how overwhelmingly salty or sweet this can be, but that's how I like my mala to be.

Ultimate Comfort Food!!! After eyeing this store for months, finally got to try it! (the queue is always there) The Mala wasn't too salty or spicy but it still is satisfying. Especially love the fen tiao. Measured by weight based on meat and veggie also means I get to try more variety of 料. Wait time isn't that long, prolly just 10minutes with a long queue! ($13 for this bowl, for 2)

Fav Mala place in Yew Tee! At first, I was skeptical of the quality and cleanliness of the food here, especially from the bad reviews they got from Burpplers and Google. I was a patriot before their grab incident, so I decided to physically head to their shop and check out the situation. Fortunately, I saw that the shop was well kept, and more importantly the food was properly prepared and served. We even had to wait for our food as theu were quite busy at lunch time. I think all the online customer feedback definitely helped them to improve. Hope they can keep up the good service.

Horrible Unhygienic Food and Service. Ordered it on foodpanda previous time there is baby cockroach in the food and this time they deliver a bag of rubbish instead of food. Very disgusting store and people accepting the money and deliver rubbish. Their food comfirm not hygienic. Advice people to boycott this store. 在foodpanda点外卖上次是食物有蟑螂这次送来的不是食物而是一袋有蟑螂和垃圾的袋子。而店家如果不要做生意还接单拿了钱, 没有道德和良心的店。权大家别关顾这家店免得被骗还是食物不干净。能这样做的店一定没有卫生。

Value For Money Grilled Fish Added 寬粉, noodles, potato slices, oyster mushroom and some veges for $32.40. Quite worth it and we didn’t have to wait very long for the food. Would come back to try other dishes.

NOT GONNA GATEKEEP THIS SICHUAN KITCHEN ANYMORE 🌶️ Located within a coffeeshop in Bedok Town Centre is Happy House Sichuan Kitchen Mala Hotpot, our go-to destination for value-for-money, no frills, consistent quality of Chinese stir fries. The 3 most ordered dishes for us will be in the order of 手撕包菜, 番茄炒鸡蛋 and 回锅肉. Can you actually believe that these dishes cost between $6-7 each? The first is the stir fried cabbage with umami fish sauce and pieces of meat while the tomato egg is just comfort food maximus. The meat dish is twice-cooked pork belly with leeks and scallions. Each of these dishes are meant to go alongside a bowl of white rice.

Cheapest mala in town As we usually order the same dishes, we know that their price was much cheaper!! $17 as compared to $25ish for our usual order - pork, lucheon meat, sausage, magiee and etc 🤡 The flavour was more salty than usual (but still within my acceptable range 🤡) Their xiao la was just nice for me!

Sliced Diced Chicken (辣子鸡) Crispy, hot and numbing dry-fried chicken with dried chilli peppers and Sichuan peppercorn. Other than having lots of tiny bones in this plate of crispy chicken cubes, the rest of it was good. It was fragrant and spicy with numbing and tingling sensation 》$12

Spicy Diced Chili 山城辣子鸡 Truth to be told, I only have tasted this dish from two different establishments for now — haven’t been into Chinese cuisine for the most part but my taste buds have been warming to it pretty much because of this dish from Thye Guan Fragrance Hot Pot from the food court near home (they seem to have other outlets in different locations around Singapore) — had been having this as part of my takeaway dinner to share with mum that this was actually the first time we were having it at the food court itself. It’s not the first time I am posting about it (had done that once during Phase One re-opening after the nation’s “Circuit Breaker”), but I absolutely love how the one here is served boneless — pretty thoughtful for easy eating considering how it comes in chunks and we don’t need to guess which piece comes with bones. Apart from that, the chicken chunks are crisp on the exterior, yet juicy within — carries a good bite while tossed in a myriad of Sichuan chili peppers and salt for a savoury, spicy and slightly numbing note; a comfortable level of spiciness that just tingles the tastebuds for those tolerant to moderate levels of spiciness. Needless to say, it has since become a favourite dish to share at the table, be it with a Mala Xiang Guo to share, or just a dish to compliment my favourite Special Dry Noodle (U-Mian) from Fish & More in the same food court.

Spicy Diced Chicken 山城辣子鸡 From Thye Guan Fragrance Hot Pot at Viva Food Court at Vista Point in Woodlands. Thought that they were an independent stall but it seems like they have quite a number of outlets across the island (there’s also another one in Woodlands along Woodlands Avenue 6). While I am not much of a Mala Hotpot lover, I do love some good Spicy Diced Chicken (辣子鸡) whenever I crave for something spicy and numbing. The Spicy Diced Chicken here is spot-on for that craving; especially love how the chicken is fried all crispy with a golden brown batter on the exterior, while being reasonably tender and not being particularly greasy as well. It comes all saltish and savoury with a good kick of spiciness from the Sichuan peppers that they have used — the numbness does kick in after a few morsels, but I absolutely love how there is a good balance of all those flavours that keeps building up with every bite. I wouldn’t really attempt having the entire portion on my own considering I always end up giving up somewhere at the 3/4 mark from the spiciness and numbness even when I am sharing, but it’s certainly a torture that I would go through again and again simply because of how addictive this is!

Ding Guo Guo Hot pot Having steamboat at home using 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝘂𝗼 𝗚𝘂𝗼 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗼𝘁 ingredient and soup base. For soup base i choose their beauty collagen broth and abalone, their soup base is so rich and good , really love it 👍😋 small abalone, woldberries , tofu and red dates can be found inside. We picked some ingredient , assorted vegetable platter, enoki mushroom , cheesy chicken ball , pork meatball paste , pork slice and fried man tou. Ma-La Hot Pot (#01-1060A People’s Park Complex) Hunting down the best mala in People’s Park Complex is no easy feat, there’s just way too many options! Our search brought us to this corner stall with its disgruntled lady manning the stall. For ~$13, we got this pretty massive bowl packed with all kinds of veg, mushrooms, sliced meats and of course luncheon meat. Shoutout to the perfectly crisp potato slices that I loooove (don’t know how all these Chinese stalls do it). Although we got 中辣, felt it could do with a little more oomph. Definitely a nice, affordable bowl of MLXG, though I’ve had better.

Spicy Food, Spicier Service Facing macs, this is the one right at the corner end. The mala here is a little salty but Super tasty and has always been consistently good in my opinion- compared to riri Hong’s occasional hit or miss standards. All the ingredients were evenly soaked in the sauce and medium spice gave it a nice heat! Best part was that it was surprisingly not oily. The ingredients were quite fresh too! Will be back for sure. At $13 I felt like it was quite affordable for the generous portions! The auntie who runs the store seems to always be in a bad mood though. But I felt like the food was worth it!

Mala Xiang Guo - Big Spicy The branch is located at Tampines interchange Koufu. Cost: $9.50 for 1 pax (the stall assistant measure the meat weight only and estimate the price of the food) Ordered big spicy and had the extra kick of spiciness with my stomach feeling the impact few hours later. Shiok-ness!!

La Zi Ji & Hui Guo Rou Laziji had a very funky curry leaf smell, meat was dry, fragrant but overly dry for my liking. Didn’t taste like other lazijis I’ve had.. not a rendition I would revisit. But good thing is that they used chicken meat instead of chicken bones fried with flour. $13 6/10 Hui Guo Rou was slightly better. Had strong bell peppers capsicum taste, fried with leek and some other vegs, with thinly sliced 3 layer pork. Not bad. $10 6.5/10
