Lunch for two Sushi Tei is the equivalent of Crystal Jade Kitchen for mid-level Japanese dining in Singapore. Not the best, but reliable quality and reasonable pricing make it a dependable place . We have been loyal customers for 30 years now.

Fried Salmon Belly Fin, $6.80++ Crispy on the outside and the fats and salmon literally melt in your mouth. Must say I am a convert for this item as I never like fatty fish.

Yuzu Sherbet, $4.50++ Love the yuzu sherbet here! Very refreshing, sweetness is nicely balanced and there are bits of the yuzu rind in it.

Flying Truffle Somen with Ikura and Sakura Ebi ($20) The Flying Somen was disappointing considering that it's one of their recommendations and signature. The taste was flat, and the somen wasn't as light and refreshing as I had expected it to me. It was also difficult to eat as the noodles got dry after a while.

Omakase Headed down to Hana to try their Omakase ($58++/pax) which came with: 1. Chilled Japanese women with Sakura ebi 2. Shisamo salad 3. Assorted sashimi 4. Grilled lobster with mentaiko 5. Battered Hiroshima oyster 6. Beef tenderloin with garlic chips 7. Ikura & tobiko sushi 8. Unagi sushi with tanuki 9. Yellowtail sushi with truffle kombu 10. Caramelised salmon sushi 11. Truffle chawanmushi 12. Kisu tempura donburi 13. Miso soup 14. Dessert The sashimi and sushi were very fresh. The sushi were excellent - the addition of tanuki (Japanese breadcrumbs), truffle kombu and aburi char elevated the texture and flavour of each sushi. The torched mentaiko went well with the lobster and the combination was full of umami. The deep fried oyster was soft, plump and not fishy at all. The beef tenderloin cubes were served medium, tender and juicy. The silky chawanmushi was thoroughly infused with fragrance of truffle. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from a relatively cheap Omakase but this exceeded my expectations. The food was solid and quite a number of dishes turned out to be a delightful. The portion of each dish was small but they definitely add up. What a pleasant surprise!

Affordable Omakase Decent Omakase but you really get the quality you paid for - that is to say, no frills and pretty average. Don't expect this to be a gateway meal for those who aren't really sold on the Omakase experience; it's likely that this will leave a poor taste in their mouth. Ultimately, Singaporeans are a cheapskate bunch and they will get just the $38 set, find that it didn't match up to their expectation of the 'Omakase' featured in media, and then vow never to return. Lest this happens to you, do remember to keep an open mind and approach Hana with more Curiosity rather than Expectations.

Sunday Lunch at Kei Kaiseidon Burpple deal Set for 2 at $39 (with tax) We easily got a seat at 11.45am on a Sunday, the place was snug nearish to the MRT entrance level of Wisma and easy to find. The outlet was clean, well-maintained and chirashi-don had fresh ingredients though some salmon chunks was tougher to bite through the fascia. Interested to try the Unagi don the next round if we happen to be nearby. The Yakitori seasoning had a slight charsiew/bakkwa style marinade (not sure if my taste buds were true to life)

Kaisen Don (SGD $28.80) @ Kenhiru Japanese Restaurant. @kenhiru_ With fluffy vinegared Niigata rice, fresh slices of salmon, bluefin tuna, octopus, yellowtail, and sweet prawn, along with 3 types of fish roe (salmon, cod, flying fish). Satisfiying, tasty, and affordable. So good!

Gyu Tataki Carpaccio (SGD $25.80) @ Kenhiru Japanese Restaurant. Strips of fatty wagyu beef, marinated in a fragrant garlic sesame sauce, with fresh spring onions and white onions lending a sharp crunch. Bold and savoury, best when shared.

Adorable sweet potato desserts! chanced upon this shop on tiktok and decided to make a trip down because i really love sweet potatoes, wasn’t left disappointed! the sweet potato treat with a hint of cocoa (pictured in front) looks like an actual sweet potato coin. the crust had similarities to mooncake crust and had a light sweet potato taste. absolutely loved the sweet potato cake (pictured at the back) as it has a distinct taste of sweet potato and the texture was oddly similar to an actual sweet potato as well. would definitely come back again for the sweet potato cake.

Temari Potato Starchy hand ball shaped purple stripes, pretty indeed, smooth texture, a combination of yellow and purple sweet potato in a confectionary. Good idea for a gift too.

Matsuzo Set $16 for the full selection of sweet potato dessert pastry. Included: sweet potato cake, Pote Koro, Bucella, Temari potato. Made using pure Japanese sweet potato. Highly recommended Pote Koro, which simply melts in the mouth.

Black Pork Truffle Rice | $14.90 Was pleasantly surprised how this tasted. It was filled with truffle aroma and there were pork cubes. This was definitely a very good twist to the usual normal fried rice. Would love to have more pork cubes though.

A good chiffon cake’s always welcomed, and till now Dulcet and Studio’s still my go-to spot for reliably fluffy and tasty ones. Take this Matcha one: very flavour-forward, the tea discernible while not being overtly bitter (though I personally enjoy the bitterness of Matcha coming through in desserts), balanced out with layers of lightly sweetened whipped cream. I didn’t quite like that the strawberries were sour though. I guess the acidity helps lift up the cake a little, but considering how light the flavours were on the whole I’d much have preferred sweeter, juicier strawberries.

White peach puff This is a fairly new addition to the usual selections of flavours. The taste of peach came off in differing degrees in different bites. That said, you could tell that they tried to balance out the flavours as best that they could. Worth a try if you like peaches. Rating 6.3/10

Doriyaki with Hokkaido cream and red bean The Hokkaido cream appears to be slightly more rich and buttery than the usual cream that one is accustomed to. Overall, a decent enough selection at $2.20 Rating 6/10

Halloween Special - Halloween Black Cat Cake Dark Chocolate exterior coating a chocolate mousse cake with a middle layer that includes diced strawberries. The middle layer of strawberries was a welcome addition which helps to cut across the richness of the dark chocolate. @$6.50 Rating 8/10 (for the presentation)
