Originating from the south of Portugal, cataplana refers both to the clam-shaped copper cooking pot and the stew(most often seafood) thatβs cooked within.
The picturesque seaside town of Azenhas Do Mar also has a seafood restaurant of the same name, and this is where we tried our very first cataplana β an ambrosial melting pot of octopus chunks, prawns, mussels and sweet potato, slow-cooked till tender in a thick and rich tomato and seafood stock. A feast for 2 and then some.
