Novena peranakan was such a fantastic find! super yummy and such excellent value! The ayam buah keluak had super tender meat, the nut was surprisingly an actual nut not restuffed. Chap chye was a classic, the big ngoh hisng was my fave…such excellent value for $6… the crunch of those chestnuts! Because after a few orders we got so super used to the huge portions, the assam fish $14 for 4 slabs of meat was a little surprising. We so spoilt. This place is highly recommended though on the wrong day service can be a little grouchy. U can call ahead and pickup later

Really wanted to try Peranakan food so decided to pop by this eatery near office. Meats were tender, gravy was addictive (remember to ask for another portion of rice!), and the standout was the Ngoh Hiang which was chunky and meaty. Unpretentious and cosy, will definitely come back!

Novena Peranakan is truly a hidden gem with one of the best Peranakan food in Singapore and yet at affordable prices. The sweet and spicy sauce provide the perfect complement to the chewy yet tender sotong.

Novena Peranakan is truly a hidden gem with one of the best Peranakan food in Singapore and yet at affordable prices. This pot of messy goodness is the highlight of the meal. The tender fish head soaked in super appetizing and tangy sauce, makes you wanna ask for more rice or scoop and drink the sauce!

Novena Peranakan is truly a hidden gem with one of the best Peranakan food in Singapore and yet at affordable prices. Chap chye is a must have Peranakan dish and their version has been cooked to perfection with soft and flavourful cabbage, black fungus, beancurd skin and tanghoon.

Novena Peranakan is truly a hidden gem with one of the best Peranakan food in Singapore and yet at affordable prices. Don’t judge this ayam buah keluak dish by its look, the chicken pieces are super tender and the savoury sauce goes so well with rice that it’ll make you break your low carb diet.

A distinct Peranakan cuisine, many would finish the chicken and gravy but ignore the ugly black nut which to me, was the star of the dish.
Some were made with a flavour so intense it had to be balanced with rice. But here, they made this milder such that it was easier to enjoy without compromising on its flavour.
Also enjoyed other of their dishes, such as the Nonya Chap Chye, Assam prawns and curry fish head.

the heart to a good traditional peranakan cuisine, or at least to me, is like going to a peranakan's house and they cooked up their best but humble home cooked dishes. is not outlandish and doesn't crave for your attention. just comforting and respectful. but because is home cooked meal, you do not wish to pay an arm and leg for it at a restaurant. that's when novena peranakan cuisine answers to the call.

chap chye - homey comfort food at its best at novena peranakan cuisine. the thing i love about nyonya food? is unpretentious, humble and at times, almost unglam. but a mouth in and you realise the sincerity and the unmistakable full nyonya flavor. btw, ngoh hiang is also a must order dish here.

a few times here already and i don't think i will stop anytime soon for its affordable and very home-styled nyonya cuisine. is it me or this place is still quite under the radar? not that i am complaining. keeps the price friendly. lol. anyway, to know peranakan food, one must eat ayam buah keluak - made ever so flavorful with the (poisonous) black nut. definitely a rice thief here, cause the rich hearty gravy (think of it as smoky earthy mushroom or strong-flavoured truffles) keeps you wanting more with your rice. at times i cant put quite a taste to this dish and like the durian, is like an acquired taste albeit less pungent like durians can be to others.

chendol to end the night's dinner on a sweet note and because i like my kidney beans. decent but nothing remarkable. but maybe cause i had the divine taste of the chendol from peramakan.

Novena Peranakan is truly a hidden gem with one of the best Peranakan food in Singapore and yet at affordable prices. A sweet ending to the meal is served in the form of authentic and strong gula melaka sauce and coconut milk drizzled over blended ice with kidney beans and chendol jelly. Only downside is that the chendol jelly tastes a little floury.
