Exclusively available at Song Gye Ok as a collaboration with Modu. Whole young chicken is slow‑cooked for over 12 hours in ginseng‑infused broth, with ginseng root, glutinous rice, leek, jujube, chives, pine nut, and truffle. Real truffle is shaved right in front of you. The flavour is heavy, deep and earthy, yet clean and pure. Chicken was soft, tender, and easily torn apart. Served with banchan, salt and pepper, a shot of ginseng drink, and an additional bowl of sticky rice. I appreciated the explanation for this dish, it added context and made the experience more complete.

Available in white or red. We chose red as said to be sweeter and more fragrant. Sparkling good, literally the champagne of makgeolli. Fresh hand‑brewed sparkling makgeolli made with premium Korean red rice, adding natural sweetness and a pinkish-red hue. Remember to gently rotate the bottle, not shake, as it’s lively and will pop like any gassy drink. Good, but you can definitely find it cheaper elsewhere.
Traditional sweet Korean scorched rice drink. Sweet, with deep sediments. Tastes like amazake but lighter.
Two pieces of grilled rice ball were included in the set too. Crispy and savoury on the outside, soft, fluffy and filling inside, with a generous ebiko centre. The outer layer was brushed with special soy sauce, adding depth of flavour. Pretty filling overall.
Set also includes one shareable dish: SGO Cheongguk Doenjang Stew, Bibim Noodles, or Jidori Udon. We picked Bibim Noodles which was superb and refreshing. Springy, slurpy cold noodles coated in flavourful gochujang sauce with fresh vegetables. Rich and savoury.
2 Pax Set ($98++)
Choose either the SGO Classic Set or SGO Selected Set (the difference is whether you want organs). We went with the Selected Set: gizzard, heart, breast soft bone, thigh, tenders, and seasonal grilled vegetables.
Is it amazing? Not really, definitely overhyped. At best, above‑average meat quality, but still enjoyable. No need to worry about grilling skills, as servers cook the meat to the right texture and guide you on pairings.
For me, I love to stick with the classics like salt or garlic sauce as they add just enough flavour while letting the natural taste shine, and I used them throughout the meal. Sriracha mayo worked well for the dull, dry tenders, adding fat and umami to this lean cut I usually avoid. Crunchy soft bone paired nicely with their sancho soy sauce. Gizzard, which I rarely eat due to its gamey taste, turned out surprisingly delicious from the grill and matched well with garlic sauce. Heart was best with salt to bring out its natural flavour. Thigh went well with any condiment, grilled to crispy skin while retaining juiciness. I also noticed they patted lemon wedge on certain cuts to add moisture, what a thoughtful touch.
The heat from the charcoal wasn’t very strong, but it cooked steadily. It may be slower, yet that made it easier to control the doneness while the server rotated between tables to help grill for everyone, much appreciated. I also liked the suction from the grill; it was strong enough that you leave the place without any lingering smell.

Glad to finally try out this famous truffle samgyetang and K‑BBQ chicken spot at their newest branch, since the Telok Ayer outlet usually has at least an hour’s waitlist and only accepts walk‑ins. This branch is also walk‑in only, but with a lesser crowd, best to go early.
Despite some minor hiccups during the initial queueing phase, service here was pretty good. Servers help with grilling, explain the ingredients, and suggest which sauces or condiments pair best with each cut, so you can truly enjoy the food.

Korean stir‑fried glass noodles. Served with mung bean sprout side dish and corn cheese. Chewy, springy noodles with mixed vegetables. Generous portion, loaded with veggies, savoury and tastisfying.
Seaweed laver soy ham fried rice. Short‑grain rice tossed with zucchini, corn, soy ham, seaweed laver and sesame seeds. Portion was just right for one pax, filling and tasty with a deep savoury note.
Army stew with an add‑on set that comes with two mandu (veg gyoza) and a glass of iced blue pea flower drink. Comfort food as always. Chewy ramyeon, baked beans, soy sausage, enoki, rice cake, firm tofu, seaweed flakes and cheese all in an umami‑rich hot pepper broth which felt kinda mild for me. Haha.
