Besides its gorgeous aesthetics, CHICHA San Chen is popular for its freshly extracted and brewed teas that are made-to-order. While the brown sugar milk tea will surely be a hit with kids, Burppler Jasmine L. prefers the Dong Ding Fresh Oolong Tea with milk and konjac jelly (from $4.70). Many have commented that the drinks at machi machi have a stronger tea flavour than typical bubble tea shops. Burppler Wenyi Loh is a huge fan of the Creme Brûlée Milk Tea, and "enjoyed the milk tea so much especially when the creme brûlée was being stirred in." Even better with their signature and very Instagram-able bottles. The Panna Cottta topping also makes for a great shot.

Tea Pulse offers a healthier bubble tea alternative, with kombucha instead of the usual black teas and chestnut pearls rather than tapioca. 1-for-1 deals available. Burppler Mel Tam recommends the Hibiscus Hawthorn Lemonade for its strong sour-sweet taste that comes from the floral combination. With the chestnut pearls, "it's exactly like the red ruby dessert and gives a nice crunch to your drink.” 1-for-1 deals available.

Yuan Cha is a low-profile spot for authentic Taiwanese teas with healthier topping choices. Burppler Wei Zhi Chiang is "clearly addicted to Yuan Cha already and all I need is an outlet nearer to me”, and Burppler Yan Abdul Wahid definitely agrees, having visited Yuan Cha four days in a row to try most of the stuff on their menu. Highlights include the Alishan Milk Tea and Rainbow QQ pearls.

There's no way you haven't heard of Milksha, the shop that even has non-BBT fans singing praises. Fans of Hojicha will love their new Houjicha Series, with the delicate and mildly sweet Houjicha Milk and Houjicha Jelly Frost, an ice blended drink with chunks of refreshing grass jelly. Burppler Jasmine Lim loves how the "jelly is soft and glides down smoothly without the need to chew."

Playmade is one of Burppler Zachary Kok's favourite bubble tea spots around, as the tea taste is not too bitter and still fragrant. Burppler Foodie Blob agrees, citing the always-long queues at their various outlets. Try the popular alcohol-less Lime Mojito (from $4.30), or the Taiwan Milk Tea with black sesame and burnt caramel pearls.
