Best Fried Chicken in Singapore
This popular Korean restaurant is all the rage now (they have 3 outlets around the island) for its variety of chicken - roasted, air-fried, and deep-fried. Of course, we're going for the latter, which come in seasonings such as original, yangnyeom (Korean spicy sweet sauce) and soy sauce. Burppler Van T recommends going with a big group of friends and order plenty to share, "and maybe order soju for the mood!"

You can't go wrong with Taiwanese Fried Chicken, one of the most renowned street snacks in Taiwan. The fried chicken here is juicy with a sweet and savoury coating, and Burppler boo tay says it's "honestly one of the best chicken cutlets ever, surpassed my expectations for its low price ($6.90)." The SingPost Centre outlet is also the only place to offer the exclusive Monga Fried Chicken Bento Sets, combining fragrant chicken rice and their amazing chicken.

Singapore's first Singapore Idol winner Taufik Batisah is now the boss of Chix Hot Chicken, which specialises in Nashville-style fried chicken. We're talking about ultra-crispy and spicy fried chicken (from $9.90) doused in a flavourful sauce that usually involves a lot of cayenne, butter, and oil. There are four different spice levels here: Mild, Medium, Hot, and Insane - let's just say that unless you can really take your spice, you'll want to avoid the last one.

There's a special sort of skill that goes into making crispy fried chicken that retains its crunch even after being drizzled in sauce, and few places do it better than Kko Kko Nara. Get the Combo Fried Chicken Set ($24) for the full experience, which comes in original and sweet spicy yangneom flavours. As Burppler Jason Wong puts it, "I remember Kko Kko Nara being the first place I truly enjoyed Korean-style fried chicken years ago."

Don't forget our favourite local fried chicken dish! If you love har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken), you won't go wrong with these golden wings from Ah Tan. Burpple Evan Mua says it's "quite a sensual experience to de-robe the airy double-fried layers and expose the succulent flesh, overflowing with prawn paste umami." We're already salivating.

Aspirasi is widely regarded as the best halal fried chicken rice (Ayam Penyet) in Singapore. You'll find this gem in Harbourfront's Seah Im Food Centre - for $5, you'll get a hearty plate of deep-fried chicken thigh and fragrant rice buried in crispy batter bits. Top one $1 for extra chicken, you won't regret it. And the sambal chilli? It packs a punch and can only be described as "damn shiok". According to Burppler Gerald Chai, at least.

Yes, this is fast food, but we think it's one of the best in the city. You won't find a spicy version, only good ol' succulent chicken, available as a two-piece set or a whole Spring Chicken (from $7.90). Burppler Anne W describes it best: "The chicken is fried to perfection, its meat succulent underneath a crisp of skin. The amount of oil is just enough to not give me a layer of lip gloss."

Yardbird comes all the way from Miami to bring you their famously tender Southern-style chicken that’s been brined for 27 hours with a super secret blend of spices. At $40, the favourite Chicken ‘N’ Watermelon ‘N’ Waffles don't come cheap, but some Burpplers say it's worth paying for. Burppler Jessica Chew particularly likes that it has "a light crispy thin coat of batter that was flavourful and not greasy. The meat was moist and tender, noteworthy especially for the breast meat."
