Chloe's Earth Burger (Pistachio and bean patty + guac + fried sweet potato) ā£

āØ: Was so surprised to see a vegan option at KGB of all places! Did not expect my first burger from them to be a plant-based one. I especially loved the addition of the fried sweet potato (genius or whurt) which made up for the lack of textural bite from a traditional meat patty. The black bean and pistachio patty made for a hefty and fulfilling burger as well. ā£

ā£ā£ā£ā£ā£š¬: I did find the monstrosity to be a little dry midway through the burger, though. The guacamole and the patty were both heavy and mushy in consistency. A little element of freshness or crunch to cut through the richness would have been amazing. ā£

Will be back for more, especially traditional meaty offerings :)ā£

āØ: CanelĆ©s have got to be my favourite sweet baked good ever. Itās my must get every time Iām at Publika, since Maison Des Pains is the only place I know to get my canelĆ© fix (+ they do a good one :D). Thereās just something magical about the French pastryās chewy, slightly bitter outer shell and custardy rum-infused insides.ā£

Itās such a bummer I live so far away though. Would really appreciate recommendations on where else I can get canelĆ©s!

The Atlantic [RM27]ā£ā£
āØ: The only thing Iāll give credit to the Red Beanbag is their perfectly poached eggs.
Otherwise, I found the dish I got rather lacklustre. ā£
ā£
š¬: The element I anticipated most -- the smoked salmon, lacked flavour and was presented in thin, sad strips. Also, despite the unconventional use of french toast over the traditional English muffin, the former managed to be drier. The mushrooms and spinach too failed to add any elements of salt or acidity I was anticipating in the dish. Overall, I was disappointed. ā£

I hope Iāll be compelled to re-visit, but as of right now, I donāt see myself going back anytime soon.ā£

STARTER: Cold Somen with Hokkaido Scallops, Avruga Caviar and Truffle GelĆ©eā£ ā£
[RM98; RM113 including tax] ā£ ā£
āØ: My favourite was my main dish of fish.
The fish was pan-fried beautifully with a crisp skin, and glazed nicely to carry a golden colour. When paired with the seaweed sauce and oyster, my taste buds were greeted with a pleasant whiff of the ocean. Being a fan of seafood and Japanese flavours, this dish was right up my alley. ā£
ā£
š¬: However, I was not as impressed with my starter of somen and scallops. Apart from the somen being too soft for my liking, there was a general lack of flavour in the dish. Perhaps I had my hopes too high for a strong truffle flavour and caviar umami. ā£
ā£
I much prefer their brunch offerings, but then again, itās been a while since my brunch visit so things may differ from what I remember. ā£
