This is a must-order if you're here. For just $10, this dish comes with 5 medium-sized, firm prawns and deeply flavourful tang hoon that remained hot till the last mouthful. The portion is just nice for two to share, so get more if you're going in a big group!
Located at a corner of a HDB in Toa Payoh Lor 6, Soi 47 is rather inaccessible but the food here is well worth the travel. The average price of the dishes are about $7, but prices go for as low as $3.80 for the one-serving Mango Salad. The (Clear) Seafood Tom Yum Soup ($6.80) is also as authentic as it can get - sour with a spicy kick, and loaded with prawns, fish slices, squids and mussels. But what I really liked was the simple and unassuming Kai Lan Mushroom ($6). It's very well-cooked and reminiscent of a homely dish.
I really liked this vege-loaded omelette (which looks a lot like a Korean pancake). The egg was fried till crisp on the outside, while the Acacia veg+egg mixture gave a nice bite with a spongy texture. Go easy on the Thai belachan dip though, it can be a little too salty.
A halal take on the classic Thai basil pork, this dish looks unassuming and dry but tastes equally good. The minced chicken was surprisingly tasty, thanks to the herbal notes from the basil leaves and spicy kick from the chili padi. At $7.50, though, I would've preferred a bigger portion.
