Tastes okay. Avocado could be riper. Cold brew coffee came with orange peel which was nice. Ambience is probably the best thing about that place.

The gem biscuit (pictured, $10.90) is crafted to look exactly like the old school biscuits that are popular back in the 90s, except that this is multiple times of the original size and price, of course. The outer layer is made of milk chocolate mousse, with apricot and almond centre. Instead of the typical icing top, this rendition came with meringue, retaining the iconic bright colours still. Despite made with these ingredients, it turned out to be less sweet that I had expected. Savour it slowly to enjoy the layers of flavours, while reminiscing the good old days.

Not much variety. Food was alright only. The drink looks pretty cool, taste like some kind of tea that's all.

Light cream, soft fluffy bun. This was alright - it was a gift, & a much appreciated one at that! Thing is, I'm not so much a cream gal, so I don't know if I'd buy this on my own. It is so soft & fluffy though......

I liked how we can customise our own breakfasts here. I had 2 poached eggs, wholegrain toast and wilted spinach, while he had sunny side ups instead, and added whole slipper lobster tail! You can even pick your preferred spread (butter/jam/vegemite etc). Everything I had was excellent, and the service was great too. If not for the insane crowds, I will definitely come here often!

One of the new additions to the Rangoon Cafe stretch, Enchanted Cafe definitely delivers what its name suggests, at least decor-wise: think fairy lights, bookcases with books that hint at ancient spells, and artfully mismatched chairs. Its food, while not quite in line with its decor, offers some tasty dishes. We really enjoyed the Enchanted Buffalo Bites ($9.90), a basket of popcorn chicken that featured crisp, tasty batter, tender meat and a pretty good homemade buffalo sauce on the side. The delicious-sounding Lu Rou Burger ($17.90) was unfortunately sold out by the time we arrived at 4pm on a Sunday, so we went with the Ngoh Hiang Burger ($18.90). They are a little heavy handed on the Chinese spices, but the meat patty is studded with chestnut cubes and really juicy. The accompanying scrambled eggs, however, stole the show — they were creamy, light and really velvety on the tongue. Skip the overly sweet Ondeh Ondeh ($5.90) drink and go instead for a complex Long Black ($5.50). Brewed using single origin beans from Brazil, the coffee is full-bodied with a bittersweet finish.

While sister concept PUNCH draws in the crowd with its laidback vibes and Instagrammable backyard, it's RONIN that checks off all the boxes on our Best Cafes list. The hard-to-find storefront along Hong Kong Street, the dimly lit space and the lack of menus (there's only one hanging on the wall to refer to) doesn't seem to faze our Burpple community — and it shouldn't stop you either! Seating is limited, so swing by for brunch with a small group of friends. As evident on every table, you should go for the beautifully made Scrambled Eggs on Toast ($9) — creamy, velvety folds of egg with a dash of coarse sea salt flakes, served on two types of toast. Add on portobello mushroom ($3.50) and avocado ($3) for a more substantial meal. The French Toast ($15) with braised apples, crispy bacon and hazelnut butter (so darn good) is also by far one of the best in town. Don't leave without a cup of Wicked Mocha ($5.50/$7.50 for iced) — coffee with a heap of peppermint chocolate for a minty finish.

Located across Pinnacle @ Duxton (nearest MRT is Outram MRT Station), this gorgeous cafe decked out in hexagonal marbled tiles, rose gold finishings and modern wood panels serves tasty brunch items that we would definitely return for. Seats fill up pretty quickly on weekends, so swing by early with your friends. You must order the crowd favourite Populus Scramble ($17.50) that sees creamy scrambled eggs and feta chunks stuffed into a buttery croissant, spiced with sliced red chillies. Don't be fooled by the compact portion size, which belies how filling the combination is. For something healthier, go for the Pulled Pork Grain Bowl ($18), one of three grain bowls available. It's our favourite of the lot, considering how tender and well-seasoned the meat is. Served with a trio of quinoa, bulgur wheat and pearl barley, the well-balanced and nutritious bowl also comes loaded with lots of vegetables like mushrooms, tomatoes and pumpkin. End your meal with one of their excellent coffees made with a house blend of beans from El Savaldore, Guatemala and Brazil. If you like your coffee milky but strong, go for their Magic ($5.50). If not, ask the friendly baristas for recommendation on their Filter Coffee (from $6)!

Hahaha fret not, this bowl of {Tagliatelle Carbonara} is much more pleasant to the tummy than the eyes. With chock full of ingredients such as bacon, mushroom, and a sous-vide egg, this pasta is as hearty as it can get! It's slightly on the wetter side (you can see the light cream that looks like a broth) which I'm guessing that's why they served it in a bowl...? A plate would've been easier to eat but oh well, it was polished clean anyway 😆
