Remembered it tasted better when I had to wait 45-60 mins at Serangoon even though it was close to midnight. This time the medium bowl ($6) came 5 mins after we ordered; nostalgic mix of vinegar, chilli and pork lard base. Chunky fishballs, meatball and UFO (all house-made!) with chewy mee kia. So good for the soul š (do try the ice cream under the same roof, rly good texture and flavours!)
Still haven't gotten over the tasty, creamy Crab Bee Hoon Soup ($60+) slurping up the thick bee hoon with bits of crab roe in the delicate, sweet crabby soup. Other dishes (the filo pastry prawn was lit) were really good too, but this has gotta be the mvp for that night. Extremely proud of this sg tzi char šš»
Their Garlic Steamed Mussels ($15) were lit; fresh, juicy mussels w salty soy base, fragrant, fried minced garlic and coriander. I could have this all to myself š„
Hits and misses for London Fat Duck; the duck meat was exceptionally fragrant (herbal?) w good mix of fat and meat. Char siew was too tough and overcooked, pork belly was good but too lean to enjoy the crackling skin and texture (2 choices of meat w egg noodles at $9.80) be sure to try their steamed rice rolls ($5.80)! Incredibly soft, melt-in-your-mouth rice rolls w crunchy fresh prawns.
Finally a good dim sum place in the west and walking distance from Beauty World MRT, rejoice! What stood out amongst the usual (they have really good har gao, siew mai, beef hor fun, mee goreng) was their Lotus Leaf Rice ($4) fragrant, authentic flavors from steamed glutinous rice, lap cheong, shiitake mushroom, dried shrimps and moist chicken bits. The fam agreed it wasn't oily or mushy like the other lotus leaf we've had, 儽!
