What do you expect in a chicken sandwich? Chicken breast, lettuce, baguette? This amazing item would most likely go unnoticed given its non-fancy name, not that I could read it: it was all in Dutch. The barista/cafe manager came by sensing we needed help. But he only bothered to translate this item. Almost suggesting its the only item worthwhile. Peeping through the opening to the kitchen, we spotted the rotisserie with the golden brown grilled chicken enjoy their sauna in the cold rainy Amsterdam afternoon. And the rest is history. P.S. The cafe is really a nice cosy place, off Albert Crypt Mrkt. A real gem.
Another local classic. Meat ball, bacon, sausage and potato mash blended with kale.
Beautifully smoked mackerel.
Platter to go with Lierige beer
This is the shop even locals swear by it that they serve the best frites in Amsterdam. I met this lady who claims she is a frites-expert and she still finds this the best. Honestly, I lost the ability then to differentiate the fries. But what was interesting is their options of topping, in this case mayonnaise and ketchup.
A must try if you are near The Dam Square, truly authentic Dutch food is served in a lovely ambience locals enjoy their evening drinks. Lovely copper mugs and porcelain wares are used for serving the huge portions of food. This steak comes with a huge salad. Just look at the generous amount of diced bacon, mushroom and ham that covered my steak! There is only one word to describe this. Yes awesome, but also overpowering. I could not finish this no matter how I tried after downing 2 bottles of Amstel beer. P.S. I did PS (no puns intended) this picture due to the poor lighting in the bar restaurant. But it really looked awesome!
The signature finger bites to go with beer in the Netherlands
Amazing shop with delectable Turkish breads and pastry
Not as salty as I have hoped for. Imagine a saba (mackerel) sashimi sandwich. Not particularly tasty without the chopped onions and gherkins.
Nice and juicy with a good charring for maximum flavours

Sticks and stones may break my bones but bread and beer complete me!
