Nara Kitchen & Co., also partially owned by the people behind The Good Batch down the road, is a white and bright space for those looking for healthier options. Their food cannot be defined by a single cuisine, but rest assured you'll be able to fill your tummy without feeling too guilty. Go for their Nara Donburi (RM35) which comprises Japanese rice, torched salmon and a 63-degree egg cooked to perfection. Pair that with some poutine (RM24) on the side if you have somebody to share it, the portion is massive!
Talk about hidden cafes — this one is located within the Bangsar region but well-hidden from the Telawi crowd next to The Co. This is a great spot for a little cafe getaway if you are up for exploring the less-visited area of Bangsar or are in need of some quality time to yourself. The highlight of Bean Reserve would be their satisfying, cooling coffee soft-serve ice creams that go for RM8 and above per cup.
Madame Waffle has opened their second outlet in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, armed with warm, aromatic goodness to satisfy your waffle cravings. Both dine-ins and takeaways are available! Don't forget to try their Thai milk tea ice cream as well — the perfect reason to visit this spot again and again.
Just imagine all your favourite local dishes in bite-size pieces on one plate. Bangsar welcomes yet another fine dining spot at Bangsar Shopping Centre, RUYI and LYN, which serves assorted "sushi" in the forms of nasi lemak, Hainanese chicken rice and mango sticky rice (RM43 for 6 pieces). Unlike most cafes, Wild Sheep Chase happens to be the first in Malaysia to serve soufflés — a light French cake known for its hard-to-achieve fluffiness. Paired with a choice of orange sauce or osmanthus maple syrup, and served with a ball of homemade sorbet, their vanilla soufflé (RM15) has already captured the hearts of many first visitors. Finish off with their earl grey milk tea (RM10) topped with lemon zest for a warm and fresh finish. If you're familiar with the author Haruki Murakami, the owners are fans of his books, hence, the name Wild Sheep Chase.
Sangkaya fans may now rejoice for this trendy and popular coconut ice cream is now available in Bangsar! The prices and menu are no different from the other branches. Although there are other ice cream parlours in the area, Sangkaya definitely stands out when it comes to their well-recognised coconut ice cream served in a coconut shell - not to mention free flow toppings! If you're looking for something different, go for their Thai milk tea ice cream.
Not a fan of coffee? This new cafe in SS15, Subang Jaya focuses on tea rather the typical coffee. You'll not find coffee on the menu so if you're up for a place that serves a variety of teas ranging from mango sencha to chai tea, this tea lab is your spot! As if this concept isn't hipster enough, they also have tea pots with abstract art on them for you artsy fartsy ones. The best time to visit would be when it's raining outside while you're all warm and cosy indoors. Go for the sencha green tea flavoured with dried strawberries (RM12 per pot) for something fruity and refreshing!
If you fancy the sound of purring while you eat and drink, here's the spot for you cat lovers. Purradise Cat Cafe has a range of sandwiches (RM15 each) and smoothies to choose from while you switch between playing with their cats and enjoying eating around them. Go for their chicken pesto sandwich or salami and pair that with any one of their healthy smoothies with soy milk (great news for lactose intolerants!). If you're just there for the cats, order a smoothie for RM15 which entitles you to a full hour with them!
Are you up for something cheesy? Hop over to this cosy cafe at Kota Kemuning for grilled cheese sandwiches of all sorts, where bacon add-ons are recommended. Have a go at the Simple Happiness grilled cheese sandwich or the Mama's Pizza version if you prefer diced capsicum in your sandwich. Each sandwich costs RM9.90 except for The Perfect Meal (RM24.00) which comes with their secret recipe pork chop - the latest item on the menu.
Calling all photographers! Photograffee Cafe House may be just the spot for some inspiration. Located in the hustle and bustle of Puchong town, this cafe combines two great passions — coffee and photography. Come here to check out what the current exhibition is, and certainly have your fill of waffles and coffee before you leave. Go for The House Cookies & Cream waffles (RM16.90) for something warm, cold and sweet. These chewy waffles are generously topped with cookie crumbs for texture and is certain to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours!
If you're passing through Jalan Gasing and are looking for a place to grab a bite, hop over to 123Gasing which is, in fact, located on 123 Jalan Gasing (no more forgetting addresses!). For something not too heavy, go for their sausages (RM18) served with brown sauce, caramelised onions, and mashed potatoes to die for! If you're really hungry, go for their club sandwich (RM20) which is certain to fill you up.
