Fresh oysters with tangy Yuzu dressing. Definitely my favourite dish of the night.
Truth be told this was actually really pretty good. Not sure if I would pay $12 to have this again, just to be served in an air conditioned environment and have my order taken on an ipad.
I used to think first time is always the charm but if anything, my second visit back was even better. The beef more tender, the noodles full of ever sought after wok hei. They do dish up some pretty fab zi char dishes too.
Char has a new home in the up and coming Jalan Besar estate. The Siew yoke was easily the star of the show, with its wonderfully crisp top, although some may complain about the large portion of fat. Skip the roast duck.
Opened by the folks behind The Plain and Ronin. Coffee is excellent as expected and brunch fare while standard is of decent quality. The ambiance is bright and airy, with a cool outdoor terrace and a wall garden.
Warm sugary goodness with amazing custard that oozes from within. Whoever thought up these babies was a genius. Now please excuse me while I get seconds.
One of my favourite dim sum places. Especially love their egg tarts with oh so soft and wobbly centres, and their XO fried carrot cake. They do serve up a mean ee fu noodle with crab and mushrooms although that doesn't come cheap. Safra card members get 20% off too.
Drool-worthy seafood porridge with generous portions of seafood at Yu Cuisine. Slurped up every bit of that sweet broth, and it was real steal at $26. Thumbs up!
Pretty awesome white beehoon, always worth the drive. They do some pretty good omelettes too. #hawker #zichar
Great place for a chill out over some fusion Korean fare and their signature house brewed makgeolli. Loving those tofu chips, even better with kimchi/guac dips! #korean
Decent bowl of fried fish Beehoon with really fresh fish although truth be told we weren't particularly blown away by it. Realised they seem to be pretty famous for their zi char fare too and we spotted many people digging into a large plate of fish head curry. Perhaps a repeat visit is in order.
This new noodle bar along Amoy Street is a brave attempt at modernising a classic hawker favourite. For dinner, start with a bowl of nudles $2 and order up some sides to share. We loved the nudles (note the pun) the most, lightly tossed in oil, even better with their special chilli sauce. The roasted pork belly was a little of a letdown being a tad bland, although the wanton was decent enough. But the batalong egg, their version of scotch egg was pretty good, especially with the wasabi mayo sauce. Overall it was quite the pleasant experience despite being slightly pricey. While you're at it, do try their Ju Hua cocktail, a refreshing chrysanthemum tea infused with vodka. #hipsterhawker indeed.
