PJ Eats
In the Hub SS2 lies a cozy and quaint little cafe in the same row as the Pints & Putts & Popo steamboat; Kooky Cream.. This cafe has a very strong minimalist vibe with very minimal decor and it is surrounded with long communal tables, small round tables and cozy furniture with fluffy pillows for you to linger with their endless choices of homemade desserts! They have a wide array of baked goods like earl grey burnt cheesecake, flourless matcha cake, crunchy cookies that you can top with the choices of Haagen Dazs ice cream and their countless combination of cool icy desserts! So we had their Seriously Matcha (RM16) which just nicely portion for 1 person to eat or to share with other cakes.. In terms of presentation, it does resembles a little like the ice kacang but with the green and white hues that was sprinkled with some soft and gelatinous cubes of matcha.. It maybe overwhelming to many unless you are a matcha lover! The texture of the ice was quite fine and it has a fine balance between finely shaved and the slight texture of grainy to it that is nice to be enjoyed slowly on its own or together with the soft matcha cubes..
Pizza fever is everywhere in KL and PJ! You would find somewhere new mushrooming for pizza and people will flock there to get a taste of that mighty slice just like how they react with the latest fad of Boba! In the foodie place known as the Happy Mansion in PJ, you would find a quaint little pizzeria selling and churning home made and mighty fine slice of Pizza! The interior is really homey and comfortable but do bare in mind that you have to patiently wait for a table as those empty seats will be filled faster than they can bus those empty plates.. The menu is still relatively small but they have a mixture of those good ol’classics with the adventurous flavour combination that would intrigue you even more! So we actually tried 2 pizza flavours and they are in 12 inches.. We ordered the Margherita (RM26) which is a staple and classic go to flavour for any Italian pizzeria.. initially we were abit worried about how big will it turn out as we had experienced some that are quite filling but after a short wait; we finally get to meet that lovely queen of pizza and notice that they are actually thin crust pizza.. You can either opt to eat with your fingers or with cutleries but we opted for the former and ate it like how the Americans eat it.. The first bite of that pizza was heavenly! The dough was really light and it has that fluffy texture to it and it was enjoyable to eat it! The sauces wasn’t evenly distributed exactly but it was such a lovely pairing between the sweetness and the acidity of the passata, the mild creamy texture of the cheese and the beautiful aromatic fresh basil leaf being sprinkled on top of the slice! The combination was lovely just that we wished the cheese would have more punchier notes to compliment that passata.. Overall it was pure deliciousness in every bite and the cheese pull was there in every bite and it doesn’t make you feel bloated! So you will have room for another slice or even another order of pizza! They currently have craft beers ranging from RM25-30 but slowly they will integrate some wine glasses in the future or even some vino into the menu! They have some interesting sides like the Truffle Mac & Cheese which seems to be a crowd favourite.. A must try place!

Truffle pizza is such a rare gem to get it well balanced and delicious as the truffle has a rich and pungent earthy aroma and taste and with a creamy cheese which is an ideal pairing for it! Such earthy and creamy cheese pizza is perfect with a Piemonte red like Barbera or Dolcetto or if you are there to splurge then get those 20 year old Barolo wines! #afoodiesaffair #winetasting #winefood #mypizzalab #trufflepizza #burpple #burpplekl #winefolly
What would immediately comes to your mind when the plate has a meat & seafood elements ? Immediately you would thought of surf and turf ? We'll meet Lamb & Clams (RM35) which is the local version of surf and turf with a Malaysian twist! This is one of the interesting dishes on the menu as it consist of a shellfish broth that is surrounding the bowl of pan fried lamb and those generous huge clams.. This is one of the mains that caught our interesting and makes our mouth waters! Well it doesn't take too long to know what the combination of taste and flavours and this would answer the grave question of whether the lamb would be able to survive in this pool of broth.. Well the presentation of this dish is really simple and homey; and from that simple plating you can see that the chef places great importance in taste rather than appearances as the food will sing by itself! Their broth is really intense and flavorful with great depth of seafood notes and a side of the vegetables like celery.. The clams are portioned generously and all of them are opened and contains the flesh.. the flesh and sweet and clean.. The moment of truth is the Lamb!! There were 2 pieces of meat given and the moment we sliced it and it was really effortless yet buttery! In terms of texture, it was really tender and perfectly done of medium! It also comes together either Ramen or a sourdough bread and the bread is really fluffy!
A great plate to share if you have love for these two proteins!
You wouldn't expect to find a casual yet homey district of section 17 that is populated with the hawker eateries to house a little hidden secret which is located just opposite of Cafe Tujoh and that is Grub by Ahong! This place is really hidden as it was located in an old stretch of shop lots and the signage is really petite so you gotta be having fantastic vision or attention to detail to spot them as you would be really surprised on how their restaurant looks like.. Well after much searching, we've managed to locate it and we're truly surprised on how simple their setup is like as it was really a casual setting with tables and you're warmly greeted by their ever smiling and friendly staff.. There is a 2 different seatings which is the Malaysian room temperature seating with the bonus point of watching the chef in their very open kitchen cooking out their goodies for us and there is also a more comfortable seating which is the air conditioned and more Instagram like setting with sufficient lighting and plain background.. There were really amazing music being belt out from their owners macbook to make this dining experience a truly unique one.. Their menu is really simple but each description of each of their menu be it starters or mains or dessert that is the one which made it really difficult for us to decide.. After much studying and time, we decided to go for a 3 course meal and we are sharing which is what the chef has recommended it as according to him the portions are really huge! So we decided to try out one of their starter which is the Beetroot, Fresh Fig &a Feta Salad (RM13.50) which is something that caught our eyes! The presentation is really eye catching and colorful! The portion was suitable for sharing as it was really generous with its figs and beetroot! The beetroot was well cooked and it was soft yet it retains its shape and it has this natural sweetness like cotton candy.. Being paired with the slightly tart figs which makes them in harmonious tune alongside the creaminess and slight salt from the feta cheese.. It was even more breathtaking on the palate when it was eaten together with the bitterness of the rocket leaves that was dressed with a drizzle of honey and the crunchy texture of the nuts that made us giggling and smiling in awe and pleasure in every bite!
The word Kakigori is not an alien to our dictionary with the introduction of its cool, frosty and ice kacang like dessert which towers so steadily like a mountain alongside with anything that our little hearts desire as toppings! Well we came to visit the Mykori Dessert cafe that is sprouting crazily around the klang valley area with its stores from Ss15, Puchong and Ss2.. For this visit, we came to the SS2 outlet which is located as the same stretch with the ever populated wantan noodles store of Chan Meng Kee; this store is located on the 2nd floor and it does requires abit of walking as parking within that stretch is really hard to find. After abit of walking, we arrived to the Mykori cafe which is relatively compact yet decently decorated with its streams of pictures of every Kakigori creation available.. So we went for the Melon Kakigori (RM26) which is all made purely by the Melon fruit as its crowning jewels and beneath those jewels is the fine snow of ice with a touch of milk and sprinkles of Nuts and at the bottom of this bowl you will be surprised with the findings of Nata de coco cubes.. Overall the taste is really refreshing and not overly sweet and it's a small Melon so if you truly love Kakigori or Melon then you can complete this journey alone otherwise it makes an excellent thing to share.
Strangers at 47 truly is the place whereby they aren't afraid to challenge themselves in evolving their menu with quirky yet fun flavours! Recently they have introduced the latest addition of houjicha latte and houjicha lava cake.. I was really excited to try it out as I'm an avid lover of all things lava cake! Today I decided to try out their Houjicha Lava Cake (RM17) which requires 15 minutes of waiting time.. So if you're not a patient person, you can opt for their lovely crepes to try from.. But let me tell you, that the 15 minutes of waiting time is absolutely worth the wait!! As the presentation of the whole dessert is really beautiful and photogenic! This lava cake is paired together with a whole meal crumble, blueberry jewels and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.. The moment the cake was cut to reveal the thick and not so watery flow of houjicha that is just amazing to watch and it is still warm despite the time spent in documenting its beauty before it's being devoured.. In terms of texture and taste of the lava cake, well I can say that they totally were on point as the cake is not too dense yet it was soft and fluffy yet sturdy and the cake is still moist! The houjicha presence is really evident in every mouthful with that toasty rice and it's roasted green tea flavour yet it was nicely balanced with the sweetness and not too overpoweringly green.. The whole meal crumble does help to enhance the experience with adding a layer of buttery sensation on top of the houjicha cake.. A must try dessert!
Tales as old as time.. well that line itself can just automatically channels you to Beauty and the beast! That's what is the latest addition to the fluffed long list of waffle dessert creation.. Well we are truly rejoiced for the fact that they managed to turn the inspiration from the movies and translate it to the plate.. This lovely dessert is actually really beautiful with its lovely golden yellow colour that reminiscent of Belle dress.. The elements are made with Mango from the wobbly panna cotta, creamy and luscious mango ice cream, mango flesh cube and the thick and richly sweet mango sauce.. Surprisingly when all the elements are eaten together, it's just sings amazingly well with the chocolate waffles that is bitter which brought out the sweetness and enhances it with the cream.. It's enjoyable in every mouthful and a pure fantasy for every mango lover!

There's a little Tokyo hidden amongst the shops in the bustling yet food driven of the district in Ss2, Pj.. This is actually one of the places in my never ending food/ dessert spots to go.. Well I've heard fantastic music about this little Japanese shop that is actually located at the same row of a cafe called Menu-script and an Internet cafe but beware as it is located on the 2nd floor.. It requires only a short exercise that involves a flight of stairs to be well greeted by the friendly staff of this P.S.Tokyo.. The whole interior of this quaint little ice cream parlor is very minimal yet photogenic for an Instagram shot during the day as it gets dark during the night.. It also serves not only soft serve but cakes, drinks from Japan and coffee too.. Their signature flavour to try is the Matcha (Green tea) and Hojicha (Roasted Green tea) and it comes in 2 sizes; the mini (RM8.90) & Regular (RM12.90) and not to forget they too have a soft serve Flight which has a platter of 4 different flavours of soft serve for Rm33.90.. For this visit, I tried their Matcha in mini cup and i was really surprised that their soft serve still retains its shape despite the cafe isn't exactly very cold to begin with but it still holds seemingly well and the flavour of this soft serve is really pure and full of flavour that screams out Green Tea and creamy in texture.. If you're a green tea lover like myself; you gotta try the soft serve here as it is really that awesome and you would better off with a regular size
You know what kind of food that can give you an instant burst of happiness besides chocolates and ice cream? It's a hearty bowl of Ramen! I heard about this Ramen place located in a vicinity of section 14 PJ that offers a reasonably priced bowl of happiness.. With that statement from a friend got me abit inquisitive to compare it with my all time favourite and the to go place of Ramen which is the Bankara Ramen.. So we did! One fine hot afternoon for lunch, we venture out to find this place in the heart of Jaya Shopping center to try out and to check out whether the statement is deem valid.. In terms of space which is relatively spacious than Bankara but atmosphere in Bari uma doesn't exudes or reminisce anything like Japan.. Then comes the menu and we were immediately left alone to retrieve our drinks from the server.. Their menu is rather simplistic and not really attractive to my eyes but they do offer something which doesn't burn a hole in your wallet which are the set lunches that you get to choose the Ramen from their selection and turn it into sets with an additional of a side and drinks.. Well I had was the Shoyu Uma Ramen lunch set (RM20.90) which comes with a bowl of edamame and a hot cup of green tea.. The taste and the texture of the noodle was rather on the thin side and on a saltier side which the broth consist mainly of soy and very mild bone broth flavour and not to forget the broth is the clear type which has very subtle flavours whereas the meat of it is really bland and not much flavour of the broth being absorbed or carried from the braising liquid which can just makes you happy eating it.. Sadly, this bowl of Ramen doesn't make the cut or even brought a sense of happiness to my day..
It's a newbie on the damansara cafe scene but it proves to be another option for the students or business partners to discuss either on matters of work or play or even assignments.. It's a spacious cafe with outdoor and indoor seating as well as private corners for some alone time.. They do have free wifi and great coffee along side some interesting craft beers & ice cream flavours like the ones I had was the apple cider which is refreshing to drink and also the Lemongrass ginger ice cream that managed to struck a balance with sweet and spicy yet tangy lemon flavour
