Seoul Yummy
A simple but yummy dish of spicy marinated chicken and cabbage cooked on a hot plate. The best bit comes, when rice and seaweed are stirred into it once the chicken is cooked, resulting in fragrant fried rice. I've tried another random shop serving dakgalbi but the one at Yoogane tastes much more flavorful and also very conveniently located at Myeongdong.
Was first introduced to this dish in Korea and am loving it! Spicy chicken stew with rice cake and glass noodle, even though I usually don't take rice, I can't help but savor every bit of the sauce with rice. Now where can I get this dish in Singapore?
The restaurant only serve 3 dishes - dumplings and 2 types of noodle (hot with broth or cold spicy noodle). The dumplings were so so good that we ordered a second helping and ended up being too full but still devoured till the last piece! Love that the dumplings were brimming with juicy filling and the skin was thin like xiao long baos.
Although at first skeptical from its looks, once digging into it, I was pleasantly surprised by the luscious frozen milk shaved ice that melts in your mouth so smoothly and goes so well with the yellow bean powder and chewy rice cake. Mm... I wish they'd bring this over to Singapore soon!
To those who have heard of the hit korean drama series "He who came from the stars" would know the recent craze of korean fried chicken and beer. So naturally, when in Seoul, we were in search of the best one! Oppadak has several chains, including one conveniently located at Myeongdong. Instead of the usual fried chicken, theirs is baked giving a light crisp, less oily but still very tender chicken parts. Also comes in many different flavors like sweet & spicy, garlic etc.
Having read a lot of blogs reviewing about the ginseng chicken soup here, I've slid it into our itinerary. Even at 2pm, the queue was long, with both locals and tourists that we decided it must not miss out on this. Strong flavorful and hearty ginseng soup, with an extra kick if you add in the ginseng shot that comes with the soup. It also comes with black chicken version, which tasted pretty similar, but is supposedly more nutritious. Definitely a must try when you're in Seoul!
