Discovered this on Burpple and no better way to celebrate National Day at a brand new spot. Southpaw offers Omakase with their own special take on the dishes led by Chef Kenny. They also have a good selection of Scottish whisky to curated by Roy the owner to pair with your food. My favorite was the foie gras on hotate sushi, giving you an indulgent melt-in-your-mouth experience. Come here for a unique cosy chef table experience!

I'm impressed with the tempura don set lunch here. Available only for their lunch menu (12-3pm), it comes with generous portions of fresh fish, crab and vegetables. The rice was also very flavorful. So easy to finish them all. What's best, you can dine in the comforts of a private room. You also have the choice of other lunch sets like Salmon, eel, puffer fish and a few others. I'll definitely be back again!

I really enjoyed the slightly chewy texture of the puffer fish. Gives it a bit more character over your regular sashimi. It goes really well with the yuzu sauce or soy sauce. The must try dish when you're here at a fugu restaurant! Heard this is the only fugu dedicated place in Singapore. The quality of food here is really high and I appreciate their authenticity.

Huge servings of chicken, scallops, ebi and assorted vegetables. Definitely makes a good meal when you're famished. It's difficult not compare this to Ginza Tendon, and I think Ginza is a close winner as they're tad bid more exquisite. The chicken here is chunkier.

It's probably hard to find sushi better than what they serve at Shinji. It's exquisite and the fish is if the highest quality. Just look at the art on this piece of Kohada! You can choose between the $75, $125, $180 & $250 (omakase) sets. I've noticed that the $125 option has best bang for the buck. I'll definitely be back again!

Chef Aeron explained how she specially sliced the hotate in the middle and spread it across the triple variant sushi rice. The result was an absolutely pleasing, mouthful of umami and freshness.

I don't think I've tried aged chutoro and this was really the highlight of the omakase. Aged for 5 days, the chutoro became so buttery and the natural flavors came out a lot more. Brilliant.

What I enjoyed most was the crispness of the batter and freshness of the chicken, prawn and vegetables. Always go for your don first and leave the side dishes (chawanmushi & miso soup) for later. The crisp batter will turn soft in a short time (it's just science) and you don't want that. It's a really fulfilling meal and I can see why there's always a very long queue! Pro-tip: Visit on Sunday 1:45pm when you could almost get a seat immediately.

Among the limited dessert options, we went for the Yuzu Sherbet and Hokkaido Vanilla Ice Cream, and the latter really made us smile. For this, the interplay between sweet and savory in vanilla ice cream with red bean paste made for a soothing conclusion to a light, quality meal.

Opened for 3 weeks now, this 9 seater joint serves Omakase at affordable prices at $38, $68 & $98. You get an all action view of the chef as he assembles and put each course onto your plate. I really loved the ootoro combining with the room temperature rice that finished with a faint tinge of warmth. Pro-tip: You can get the $18 omakase option during lunch hours (limited to 18 sets a day). #burpple

Ordered the mazesoba (mix noodles) with all toppings (SGD15.80++) which consists of soft boiled egg, char siew, braised pork and deep fried chicken (we add on a flavourful egg). Mix them up and you can add vinegar or chilli oil to the noodles too.
It feels like bak chor mee, Japanese style and was flavourful and appetizing. But it becomes too porky for me towards the end. Should have chosen the fried chicken one instead.
It also comes with a small cup of chicken broth to sip in-between, and I actually like this soup a lot because it helps to balance out the rich flavour of the noodles. And it's refillable too!
Definitely a place that we will be back again 👍

Situated near the cashiers of MEIDI-YA, this place serves really good and affordable curry sets. The chicken were so light and crisp, and it went really well with the Japanese pickles and rich curry. Superb value for money!
