The tender slices of marinated pork belly are good, but the limelight is almost entirely stolen by the incredibly fragrant garlic fried rice – you can catch a whiff of its mouthwatering pungency before it even reaches the table. The well-separated grains of rice are swathed in a delicious aroma of wok hei, making me want to chase every bite with another.
This has become my go to place for Japanese food in the jurong area. Nothing beats their affordable set meals that offers so much more value than your usual Japanese restaurant chains. And it's even a bigger plus when their food standard is way above those chains. Saboten specializes in those breaded fried goodies. They are done perfectly with the bread crumbs giving a comfortable fluffy crunch (not those that leave scratches on your gums) and the meat inside is still perfect and moist. For pork, I love the loin cut due to the fatty bits which melts in my mouth. 🎉 The mentaiko halibut is absolutely gorgeous with the fish meltingly soft and buttery (think cod) with the wildly likeable mentaiko sauce on the top. This combination wipes out the rice in my bowl in an instant. The shabu shabu soup was also flavourful especially when you add all the ingredients in. Definitely the most satisfying Japanese meal you can find in jurong!
This is one treat that you must eat in a flash! This fish-shaped pancake stuffed with your choice of filling (custard, matcha, red bean, chocolate) is slightly crispy on the outside and mochi-kinda chewy on the inside. Would skip having the ice cream and the works next time as it melts in a flash due to the warmth of the pancake. But I'm definitely getting just the pancakes in various flavours the next time! :D
