SG: Edible Orchard

SG: Edible Orchard

severe shortage of edible food in orchard road. everything is pricey yet unimpressive. here are the few that I endorse.

担担面 in pasta form. With kale. #mindblown #shuttupandtakemymoney #malamadness

I'm a huge fan of fusion pastas so it's no surprise that i loved this. I really liked the doneness of the spaghetti too - super al dente. The dressing is a little numbing but not spicy, just a bit peppery. The half boiled egg really brings it all together and the kale soaks up the sauce while still maintaining that fresh crisp texture. What a winner.
.
The menu has mosly regular brunch /cafe food items but I took a chance with this unusual option. Would totally come back for it even though I despise being in orchard. Their $12++ ice cube concept drinks are also really luxe and pretty (yes overpriced but you gotta live a little).

🚙 : note $2 lunchtime parking surcharge at paragon carpark (i.e. On top of the already killer parking fees)

So it's October and I'm frantically trying to use more of my entertainer app. I feel like they artificially inflate the price here because of the 1-for-1. Meats are okay. I preferred the $128++ ribeye cap (non wagyu) instead of the wagyu ribeye (pictured) because the ribeye cap is a chunkier cut, though leaner. Also the wagyu fats are very patchy (not evenly marbled like japanese wagyu) and can be very jelak if you bite into a huge chunk of pure fat. I also didn't like the orchard road + mall location but that's a personal preference. Fact though: Ambience is very touristy and not steakhouse-ish if you know what I mean 😂 also there is no bathroom in the resto and you have to use the dirty mall toilets zomg 😔

Price has increased by a whopping $4 since my last visit 😑 Still a nice lobster roll, especially with the buttery crisp roll and zesty lemony dressing. Fries are great too. Perfect with the cold brew which features hokkaido milk.

An Orchard Road institution, I have been coming here on and off for more than 15 years (yes, when the cheapest cut, sirloin, cost only $40 until today's $60 😥). Unlike most places they have actually maintained their standards throughout the years, always serving up a tender, perfectly grilled steak in tasty Japanese style marinade, which you can slather with herb butter. They are also consistent with doneness despite the added complexity of the hot plate which continues cooking the meat after it has been served. Add a very reasonable $15 for the set, which comprises a very filling repertoire of appetiser, soup, salad and dessert. Despite the formal setting I would not consider this fine dining (I call it my favourite fake high class resto), but a solid steakhouse which I would even brave the horrible takashimaya parking situation for. If you like your beef fatty like I do, go for the ribeye.

Expect to spend at least $60-100/pax at this high class hotpot. Pricey but somehow worth it. Love the goose chitterlings (can't really find this anywhere else), kurobuta pork and beef short ribs here. Recommend the signature drunken chicken soup base. Can't fault the service either.

MUCH less veiny cut this time. And more rice. Set lunches come with miso soup, salad, chawanmushi and a scoop of honeycomb ice cream.

still can't decide if I love or hate this. the wagyu is unfortunately an inferior cut (tough and veiny despite bring done med rare as requested), but the onsen egg and truffle (oil?) had me practically licking the bowl. NOT recommended for big eaters as the portion of rice is tiny.

the talk of the town. aburi is way too common these days, but if you have a hankering, this is cheaper than sushi tei's version !

paper thin slices of scallop sashimi , lightly flambé-d. perhaps thicker and less slices would be better. found this tasty but a little unfulfilling.
