TW Style Braised Pork Rice.

Break away from the traditional chee cheong fun with 2-week-old @funfan_abc_brickworks_market’s original creation of the cheesy cheong fun. Looking somewhat like an egg prata, the star was the cheddar cheese wrapped within the rice rolls that melts delicately in the mouth. It’s even better with pan fried egg coating on the outside (although I’d have preferred it to be slightly charred for stronger aroma), and wasabi mayo drizzled on top. Such savoriness all in a dish! The chili sauce, with its tinge of sourness, cut through the strong flavours.

The rice bowls selection gave me a really homely impression, especially with mixed vegetables and pickled cucumber strips. The braised pork had a good ratio of fat to lean meat. Glad that the braising sauce, with a hint of spices, wasn’t too salty. However, the meat could be more tender.

Personally, I preferred the chicken cutlet rice bowls. The portion was appropriate; think chicken meat coated with bread crumbs fried till crispy while retaining succulence. My favourite was the curried chicken cutlet, taking after Japanese curry style. Guess what, the tedious work involved the cooking of apples and onions till caramelized for that sweetness in the curry. Great satisfaction attained from its richness. Lastly, the Korean spicy sauce was a modification of their own to the Korean gochujang sauce. Yes you still get the fermented, sweet taste but not as spicy. The level of heat here generally wasn’t that high, so good for those who have low tolerance for spiciness.

If you’re looking for flavours around the world in a local hawker stall, then watch out for what these guys, who have had previous hotel chef experience, will be cooking in their pots as they continuously update their menu! Support our home grown hawkerpreneurs and like I always hope, may our unique hawker culture be preserved.
