Artichoke

With head honcho Bjorn Shern back at the helm of Artichoke, the restaurant launches a new menu that doesn’t stray far from their uniquely Middle Eastern flair. The Iraqi Spiced Mushrooms ($12) and BJ’s Favourite Steak ($36) doused in za’atar butter are well on their way into our Wishlists. Meanwhile on desserts, we’re drooling over the Baklava Croissant ($7) topped with fragrant baklava frangipane, and the seasonal Choco Pie ($5) — Burppler Jonathan Wong calls this ‘a work of art that will appeal to both chocolate and non chocolate lovers alike’.

They now also open for Hang Time (their very own happy hour!) Tuesdays through Sundays from 4-7pm, and Sunday dinners.

The Lobby Lounge (The Shangri-La Hotel Singapore)

On their mission to keep the hawker heritage alive, The Shangri-La offers an eclectic dining experience for local favourites right here in The Lobby Lounge. This month, Legendary Bak Kut Teh and Rumah Makan Minang joins the lineup, offering their namesake bak kut teh and authentic Beef Rendang respectively. Hit the hotel up for a swanky spot to try honest-to-goodness hawker food!

The Hot 100 2018 winner for Extraordinary Value is doing a fab job living up to their title. Prices for the new brunch menu begin at $6.90, for an order of their excellently done Chee Cheong Fun. We highly recommend forking out an additional $6 to get the one with pulled duck confit (and perhaps another $4 for foie gras when you’re feeling luxurious!) Also popular with the Burpple community is the Wild Mushroom Toasties with Truffle Scramble ($17.90) featuring crispy, cheesy Danish loaf with rich, silky truffle scramble and mushrooms.

For drinks, there are Matchaya’s iced milk teas (we liked the Houjicha best!) and an option for Free Flow Gin ($30, available from 2-4pm). Two hours worth of gin from the tableside cart? We say cheers to that!

Rang Mahal

When it comes to Indian fine dining, we turn to Pan Pacific’s Rang Mahal for consistently tasty eats. Their recent menu update sees top-notch additions to their a la carte dinner menu, with plenty options to splurge on! We love the Ayurvedic element in the Tomato Saar, Mulethi Herb Foam ($20) that whets the appetite with tangy, herbal notes, as well as the Roomali Masala Paad ($15) — a super addictive, giant papadum topped with lentil crisps, chillies and onions.

The highlight of this refreshed menu, however, has to be the tandoori dishes. Both the Tandoori Duet of Green & White Asparagus ($35) and Tandoori Fondue ($58) were mindblowingly delicious. The latter comes with an excellent ensemble of chicken kebabs marinated four ways, to be dipped into the luscious cheese makhni fondue.

SPRMRKT

Taking their supermarket experience with them to the new Cluny Court location, SPRMRKT and their new all day dining dishes continue to please the Burpple community. Take Burppler Veronica Phua’s recommendation for the Salted Egg Carbonara ($23), which comes with lap cheong and housemade salted egg sauce for ultimate umami goodness. From the dinner menu, don’t miss the smoky yet refreshing Salt-baked Beetroot with Anchovies ($20)!

We went down to the LA burger joint to try their seasonal Bae Watch Burger ($16), and it’s every bit the surf and turf it promises to be. The juicy Angus beef patty is layered with mildly spicy crab meat in sriracha aioli, before it’s topped with caramelised onions, deep-fried calamari rings and tobiko dill sauce. We would’ve liked the bun to be a tad softer (like their other pillowy buns), but the burger’s worth the dough — especially if you like steak AND seafood, and have dreams of marrying the two.
