The Rundown
A quiet grocer known for farm fresh produce sourced from Australia and Europe, Little Farms has recently expanded to incorporate a cafe on its premises. The dishes on the Little Farms Cafe’s all-day breakfast and brunch menu are made with the same foods and produce from their grocer arm, which essentially means fresh, nutritious fare and one of the closest farm-to-table dining experiences you’ll get in a Singapore shopping mall.
The Vibe
Set within Valley Point Shopping Mall, the cosy cafe was buzzing when we popped by for a late lunch on Thursday. This is the sort of place we’ll rock up to in shorts and flip flops on a lazy weekend, but also one we’ll happily pop by for coffee and a light bite if we’re in the area. The chiller displays some massive sandwiches, fresh salads and tempting sweets. Come with your friends but not too many, as space is limited.
What’s Good
The all-day breakfast and brunch menu is not particularly creative and instead features classic, crowd favourite food and flavour pairings. The cooking is fuss-free and simple, which we appreciate as that truly allows their farm fresh produce to shine. Their coffee (from $4), brewed using beans from New Zealand’s Allpress Espresso, is robust and heady, and a bit on the bitter side — not a bad thing if you like your java with a strong hit. As for food, their signature Smashed Avocado ($15) is a no brainer pleaser done well, and among the many renditions we’ve tried in the past months, this scores pretty high on our list for the creamy, perfectly seasoned avo, and spot-on poached eggs. For something heavier, we enjoyed the Cape Grim Steak & Eggs ($24), which stacks a 200g piece of grass-fed striploin and two sunny side-up eggs over a generous bed of soft, caramelised onions and toasted sourdough. We highly recommend you order the steak over Little Farms’ Big Breakfast ($20) — we tried the pork and fennel sausage as well as the nitrate free bacon, and were not particularly impressed.
We weren’t big fans of the dense Buttermilk Pancakes ($17) either, although we love the ripe berries and quality maple syrup that came with. Our curiosity was piqued when the chef shared how they are working on perfecting the recipe for their Peanut Butter Brownie ($6.50) but the hearty plates left us with no space for sweets — let us know if you try it! Order smart, and this will be a place you’ll return to time and again for simple food done right, especially if you live around the River Valley ‘hood.
