We came here for our “Winter Solstice” dinner (it’s the Chinese Thanksgiving when the family comes together for a feast, it’s the most important dinner in a year for Chinese families, at least for the Cantonese....)
The food and service is the expected quality of a Shang Palace. I think if you want to go for authentic Cantonese food and the Shang Palace at any Shangri-la hotel is always a safe choice. Comfortable place, not too crowd and not too noisy, considered it is the day of Winter Solstice, thought there would be many families eating out, but we managed to get a table walk in. We tried their 爵士湯, which is a famous soup for a prominent person in Singapore, but it tasted lighter than we thought. The soup recipe calls for many ingredients and should include the melon in it but it’s not sweet as expected. We cantonese are very particular about their soup! Normally other restaurant would serve the soup with a bit of every ingredient so one can know what goes in the soup.
