I was kindly gifted with two chiffon cakes, flavours that are not available in the market yet. One of the cakes is a Bakkwa Chiffon ($12 for 8 inch and $6 for inch), which at first came across as somewhat weird as we are used to having sweet chiffon cakes. However, all my doubts were quashed as the soft fluffy texture when you bite into the cake with the smoky aroma from the generous amount of bakkwa bits make it an excellent slice of chiffon. In addition, I also come to know that their bakkwa is handmade from pork hind leg and all the chiffons are made with 100% natural ingredients without any added MSG, preservatives, artificial flavouring or colouring. To balance the savouriness, there’s also the Sweet Potato Chiffon that comes with a tinge of sweetness from the chunks of purple sweet potato within it. All in all, the cakes were light and moist, perfect with a cup of coffee or tea. Besides these two flavours, the café also has Pandan and Gula Melaka in their menu.
The surprise didn’t stop there as the Bakkwa Pau ($5.40 for 6 pieces) was another amazement. Paying homage to the traditional char siew bao, instead of using BBQ pork, the soft bun is filled with the same smoky bakkwa. This is highly recommended to be in your steamer and the best part is that it is made with 100% natural ingredients without the addition of preservatives. You can check out the chiffons and pau from their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/FoodYoCafe) and enjoy free delivery when you order $30 or above. A flat delivery fee of $5 is applicable if your order falls below $30.
