It is tough times indeed for F&B but there just seem to be a large number of cafe openings of the late — Glacier is just one of the many which had opened ever since the lifting of dine-in restrictions; an establishment that is opened by the folks behind Onalu at Singapore Management University, which is best known for their bagels.

Whilst offering a small variety of mains here that includes a Glacier Big Breakfast (i.e. their big breakfast option), the Seafood Vongole Pasta and the Salmon Mentaiko Truffle Grain Bowl, it is the desserts at Glacier that are likely to draw more attention — think Pandan Mochi Waffles and Chocolate Babka, alongside a whole list of ice-cream flavours to choose from, which includes flavours such as Smoked Milk, Bluepea Lemongrass Pandan and Raspberry, Lychee and Rose, amongst others.

Being one who enjoys Chocolate Babka, I couldn’t give their Chocolate Babka with Gelato a miss — found myself opting for the Osthmanthus Oolong since I am a big fan of tea-flavoured ice-creams. The Chocolate Babka here comes toasted — the exterior being while crusted and the interior being not too dense; the swirls of melted chocolate is pretty ganache-like being all smooth and suitably sweet without being particularly “heaty”. Whilst I am not usually a fan of toasted babka, it works here — that is especially considering how the toasted exterior holds up to the gelato well; so much that one wouldn’t be left with a soggy mess even as the gelato melts slowly to soak up the Chocolate Babka. The Osthmanthus Oolong Gelato is a sheer pleasure to have; whilst there are tiny icy bits hidden in certain areas which wasn’t too much of a bother to me, the gelato was otherwise smooth and creamy with a distinct floral and tea-like aroma — pretty refreshing to have.

While Glacier’s options of mains are rather limited to a few options that may seem a little “basic” to some, we did enjoy how the Seafood Vongole Pasta was pretty generous in terms of portion and of a decent quality — that being said, the highlight here seems to be more on their dessert offerings; the show-stopper seemingly more on their flavoured cones, and the Pandan Mochi Waffle which is their very own variation of the usual waffle. The Chocolate Babka also proves itself as a decent option; one that is no doubt simpler, but satisfying. Those who are intending to visit for dinner may want to note their last order timing for mains at 7:30pm despite their operating hours being up to 1:00am on Saturday and Sunday — a spot that I will gladly revisit for desserts again.
