A jap place specializing in tonkatsu located in a kopitiam under a HDB block, we were pleasantly surprised to discover this place behind the more popular Beo Crescent Market.

We had the Tonkatsu Don ($9.80) and the Black Pig (aka iberico pork) Katsu Curry rice ($13.80). The regular pork was juicy, succulent and tender, and the katsu was also well done and wasn’t oily (+10 PTS). Special mention to the panko crumbs (aka bread crumbs) which has a light buttery taste on its own. Wurf!

Would I top up $4 for the black pig? Perhaps for someone with not-super-indulgent tastebuds like myself, I would say no. But we could definitely taste the difference as the black pig katsu tasted slightly more fatty and hence, was even more tender as you chewed. K said he would have preferred to have paid $3 for the top up, but added that the jap curry was good, even better than some chainstores in SG! It wasn’t overly sweet or starchy, and had a slight spice. They also do sell a chicken katsu option, we might come back for that some time!
