Heard all about the Micro Creamery which has recently opened its doors at Jalan Tua Kong through multiple sources on social media. Situated at 47 Jalan Tua Kong, this address may be a little familiar to some who do follow the happenings in the local F&B scene — this is also the same address which is occupied by Les Mains Bakehouse. It is worth noting that Micro Creamery is not related to the folks of Micro Bakery & Kitchen — a similarly-named establishment that operates multiple outlets and is most notable for their sourdough loaves. The location of Micro Creamery isn’t the most accessible, requiring a bit of a walk into the private estate which it is being nestled in from the nearest bus stop, though they are not the only F&B establishments being located within the area — other F&B establishments within the vicinity includes an outlet of Springleaf Prata Place and an outlet of Tasty Court. Walking into the space of Micro Creamery, one would find that there isn’t much of a difference with the space since its days being known as simply Les Mains Patisserie, though the furniture for dine-in has been removed “as directed by licensing agencies” as mentioned through Les Mains Bakery’s social media pages; the only other change would be where the display freezer for the ice-cream is now at, which replaces the display fridge for the pastries and cakes previously. Apart from a range of ice-cream flavours that are available in either cups of waffle cones, there are still a small variety of bakes that are being offered; for those looking for beverages, one can also opt for the espresso-based specialty coffee and tea that is being served up as well.

Skimming through the various flavours which Micro Creamery has to offer, we found it to be really difficult to choose a single flavour to go for — there were some really interesting flavours that are stocked within their display freezer during the day we had made our visit; such flavours would include that of the Mango Tajin Sorbet, as well as the Ricotta Lime Curd flavours. Such flavours are pretty reminiscent of what was previously served up at the now-defunct 99 Gelato Bar that was situated within XM Studios at Kitchener Complex (the space is now occupied by KAFFEIN), and this also includes the Tomato Strawberry Sorbet which we went for as well — does make us wonder if the folks at Micro Creamery are affiliated / the same as the folks who used to run 99 Gelato Bar. The Tomato Strawberry Sorbet did not quite ring a bell for us until we had tasted it — a flavour which we had likely ordered at 99 Gelato Bar before, the Tomato Strawberry Sorbet was especially refreshing; something that is well needed after walking through the private estate on a hot, sunny afternoon; it was the right degree of being zingy and tangy from the tomato, yet carried a slight sour-ish tang from the strawberry — quite complex but not particularly jelak since it doesn’t carry a creamy component, yet also not too sweet as well. The texture of the sorbet was also well-grasped here; sticky without being too watered down — it also did not seem to melt too quickly as well. Definitely something that works well on the palate especially for those whom are looking for a cold treat that isn’t particularly overwhelming after a heavy meal elsewhere. The waffle cone itself feels freshly made; carried a good crunch on its own with a distinct buttermilk fragrance. Not sure how one would feel about having to make a walk all the way in just for ice-cream especially for a spot without any dine-in seatings, though these are definitely some quality ice-creams which we would not mind making a detour for if time does permit for it while in the ‘hood!
