If you go early in the day, like before 10am, you can see many hawkers at this food centre seated around preparing food. This stall's included. So when I spotted several large and still-uncut "batang" ("ikan tenggiri" or Spanish Mackeral) piled in a deep basin, it's obvious freshness would be guaranteed. Immediately, I ordered a $5 bowl of their sliced fish soup. True enough, it didn't disappoint. Cut long and chunky, the pieces of fish tasted really fresh but it's not that alone which pleased me. I also liked that instead of the more commonly used lettuce, they cook with "peh cai" (白菜) which gives sweetness. Plus, aside from the ubiquitious sliced chili padi in soya sauce, this stall offers a dip of puréed raw garlic and chilli which I enjoyed very much.
You can find "Golden Mile Fish Porridge & Seafood Soup" at unit #B1-40 inside Golden Mile Food Centre, also fondly known to many as "Beach Road Army Market".
