This is the kind of place where you have to queue in the heat to get your bakes. Is it worth it? We certainly think so. Petit Pain is a not-so-secret gem on Joo Chiat Road for fresh-from-the-oven pastries like pain au chocolat, Shiitake Bread, and Chocolate Orange Escargot – a type of sweet kouign aman. Their ever-popular croissants are only available at opening, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. And even then, most of them sell out by 3.30pm. Burppler Smitten Angel says "It's crispy on the outside rather than flaky, and the inside is chewy and a bit wet, rather than fluffy."
