[Make an Impact - World Meat Free Week] Make an impact by swapping to one meat-free meal this week.
🔸
Research estimates that the global population will reach 9.1 billion by 2050 and, requiring an extra 200 million tonnes of meat annually. It is now widely accepted that to increase meat production to meet the rising demand is neither sustainable nor ethically feasible (several reasons: meat production is already responsible for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, more than all emissions from global transport combined; the livestock sector uses 30% of the earth’s entire land surface while 69% of global fresh water is attributed to the food system; and 80% of the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest is attributed to beef production).
🔸
Making just one swap to a meat free meal during World Meat Free Week can have a huge impact. Individually, everyone can:
* Save greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to enough electricity to charge a mobile phone for two years; and
* Reduce your carbon footprint by up to 50%
Collectively, we would save:
* The carbon equivalent of boiling a kettle more than 1 trillion times
* Over 685 billion calories equivalent to running more than 263 million marathons
🔸
To support this cause, Quorn x Barcook has launched six newly-launched buns. 100 free buns would also be given away at 3pm every day at six select Barcook Bakery outlets (Hong Lim Complex, OG Albert Complex, Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC), NEX, Clarke Quay Central and Raffles City Shopping Centre). Across all 11 Barcook Bakery outlets islandwide, patrons can also enjoy a special promotional offer of $1 per bun from 12pm to 2pm.
🔸
Try them, and you'll be surprised they taste just like real meat. Ever since I was first introduced to them, I've been buying Quorn products and I always have some in my fridge. Since I also love Barcook for their soft fluffy buns, this collaboration is working really well.
🔸
But even if you're not getting these buns, do consider going meat free for a meal during this World Meat Free Week.
