For those whom have been following us for quite a while, one thing that some may have observed is our love for Nyonya-style Kueh — something that would almost certainly make us travel from one end of the island to another for. One thing that we had noticed fairly recently whilst scrolling through the food delivery platforms of the late was a particular section named Power Kaw Kaw that seems to be listed in some of the LiHO 里喝 locations islandwide. Turns out, LiHO had seem to have added a whole line-up of Nyonya-style Kueh on its menu. A trip made by chance to Our Tampines Hub, we found that the LiHO outlet there is also retailing the line-up of Power Kaw Kaw’s Kueh — these would be stocked at the counter in its dedicated display shelf that contains all of the Kueh available for the day for patrons to pick and choose before making payment at the counter. All Kuehs have been packaged in small plastic containers to be sold to patrons; the variety of Kueh also being rather wide considering how they have commonly found ones such as Penang Lapis, Kueh Dadar, Ang Ku Kueh, Pulut Seri Kaya etc., whilst also offering more interesting ones like the Pisang Ubi and Rempah Udang Lemper.

Whilst there is a choice of picking up the Assorted Box where one would be able to get to try two different flavours of their Nyonya-style Kueh in a single box rather than just a single flavour on its own, there are still a limited selection of Kueh that is offered as part of the Assorted Box. We picked up two boxes of Kueh here; one being the Assorted Box that comprises of their Penang Lapis and Kueh Talam Pandan (this was strangely not mentioned as an item in their hard copy menu), as well as the Ondeh Gula Melaka. Both items do not really surpass our expectations in the way that they are executed, though if we were to pick between the two boxes that we have had, the Ondeh Gula Melaka certainly had an edge over the Penang Lapis and Kueh Talam Pandan — don’t get us wrong; both boxes of Kueh were surprisingly fresh considering that we had purchased them from the LiHO outlet at Our Tampines Hub during mid-day. Power Kaw Kaw describes its Ondeh Gula Melaka to feature elements such as the Pandan, glutinous rice, Gula Melaka and grated coconut — these glutinous rice balls carry quite a firm chew that is all bouncy and qq. As one chews on it further, the glutinous rice bursts instantly releasing all that molten Gula Melaka from within; the Gula Melaka carrying an earthy sweetness that does not “burn” the throat while at it. Must say that Power Kaw Kaw definitely presents as an interesting option to go for as a light bite to have while enjoying LiHO’s variety of bubble tea — kudos to the one whom actually saw Nyonya-style Kueh as a good compliment alongside bubble tea to have. Given the quality of the Nyonya-style Kueh served by Power Kaw Kaw, we look forward to trying their other offerings like the Pulut Seri Kaya which we love.
