Was scrolling around social media the other day and managed to find out about Amei Western Food that is located in the Hollakopi coffeeshop within 1080 Lower Delta Road; this would be the same industrial estate which one will be able to notice when passing through Jalan Bukit Merah as well. Amei Western Food has been opened for quite a number of months and the stall is one that is rather easy to recognise — they occupy a stall unit that is situated in the middle of the entire coffeeshop; the stall being rather noticeable given the big illustrations of the western cuisine that they serve up being found on the signboard. Whilst being a stall that serves up western food in a style similar to that of what other western cuisines stalls in coffeeshops, hawker centres and food courts around do, Amei Western Food also serves up a good variety of lesser seen dishes such as Risotto, Ravioli and Chicken Corden Bleu which makes them stand out as well.
Given our love for Chicken Corden Bleu, we made our visit to Amei Western Food after knowing that these folks do offer a rendition of it in their menu. It is worth noting that patrons do get to choose between having their Chicken Corden Bleu being served with 1 slice of Garlic Bread and two (2) side dishes, or one can choose to opt for the Chicken Corden Bleu to come with rice or pasta — we went with the option to go for Garlic Bread and two (2) side dishes, in which the default will be with French Fries and Coleslaw. The Chicken Corden Bleu comes served as-is without being sliced into halves here; with our knife slicing straight through to the middle of the fried chicken breast, the Chicken Corden Bleu reveals gooey melted cheese that oozes out from within. We liked how the deep-fried chicken breast here does come with a crisp, panko-crumbed batter that is done to a golden-brown consistency; all whilst the meat within still tender. The ham rolled within the chicken breast helps add another contrast of savouriness to the dish, while the cheese further elevates the entire dish while and brings both the chicken and the ham together. Appreciated how the Chicken Corden Bleu does come with a slice of garlic toast on the side; it comes crisp with a crunchy whilst also distinctively buttery and garlicky. Meanwhile, we did find the French Fries to be a little dry though still carrying a good crispness to it; seasoned well with salt, while the Coleslaw does come chilled and not overly milky with crisp greens and was pretty refreshing. Considering how uncommon Chicken Corden Bleu is here, coupled with the fact that Amei Western Food’s rendition of fairly affordable at $7.90, this is a rendition that is pretty much worth trying if in the area!
