The same shop
we
used to visit.
~
The scent of coffee
scratched
my soul with broken fragments
of a distant tryst.
~
The barista had
changed. But, I wasn't
surprised.
Loyalty's the joker
in our deck of cards.
~
7 ounce.
Low fat.
Extra shot.
~
I spoke a different order;
one that's all-too-familiar.
~
It caught me off guard.
But, it didn't matter;
not anymore.
~
I approached the cup
with slight hesitation.
My tiny glands
provoked
by residual feelings.
~
The familiar table,
now foreign.
Memories overwritten
by a new couple,
a new man.
~
I closed my eyes
and swallowed the emotions,
stealing a closer glance before
my final departure.
~
"... takeaway," I muttered
as my voice began to
crack.
-
He poured the coffee into a
disposable
cup. The
perfect heart
is now
disfigured.
~
A silent farewell
and an unnoticed wave.
I forced a smile
as the memories
flooded
my eyes.
